When I purchased her, my mechanic actually advised that we simply observe the oil for signs of IMS failure during her regular oil changes rather than jump to immediate replacement. I fell victim to the hysteria at the time and insisted on replacement for peace of mind. As it turns out, there was nothing wrong with the factory bearing, which I actually still have in my possession. In terms of performance, she purrs. I would say she is most happy when taken for a spirited run at sustained, high RPMs - when the engine and gears are sufficiently warmed up, she changes gears like absolute butter - it is an experience that is truly hard to describe in words. I have not encountered any significant mechanical issues during my stewardship - I did have the oil pressure / sensor switch recently replaced as it would intermittently error out (this is a common issue with 996s - and an easy repair). It works flawlessly now.
