Many states don\u2019t care about the cat on a 75, but some do. I had a 1975 type LT Camaro 4 speed purchased from Penske dealership in Pennsylvania. It was an L82 engine model with a four barrel carb. Here is the recipe to wake it up: eliminate or core, the catalytic converter, recurve the HEI distributor, sounds funny, but richen the primary and lean out the secondaries on the Quadra jet(hard to find the correct rods for the secondaries). Nowadays, a holly sniper would work fine. I never had the heads off my motor and it ran to about 300,000 miles! if you do have the heads off raise the compression to about 9 1/2 to one or better. you can run 10 1/4 to one like the 350s from 67-70; they run fine on 91 octane. these tweaks will get you close to 300 hp at the flywheel; mine was about 210- 220 at the wheels when I tuned the carb. even as heavy as the Camaro was, I could get it to low 15s and occasionally a high 14 with a good launch. Lots of fun bracket racing!
