That one made a lot of sound, so I bought a new one and re-installed it.\nI replaced the usual suspects: new fuel filter, and air filter, changed coolant, changed oil with 10w40, changed brake fluid, changed differential oil, and power steering fluid. I replaced the brake fluid reservoir. \nBecause the car was sitting for so long, it is always important to make sure there is no gunk in the gas tank, so I added fuel, and gas tank cleaner, let it sit for a couple of days, and flushed it out. I repeated this step one more time until clear gasoline came out of the internal pump.\nFor the engine itself, I cleaned the manifold, flushed the gas lines going from the distributor to the injectors, and tested them for maximum clearance. I took out the fuel injectors and chemically cleaned them.\nWhen I tested them for clearance, two of them were faulty and I replaced those with Bosch fuel injectors (Mercedes injector 785623, a shorter version with no difference in injection result).\nI changed all spark plugs because that is what you do.\nBecause the ignition distributor was not giving me a steady amount of strong sparks and not every point gave me sparks, I took the ignition distributor apart, cleaned everything and tested it until everything worked like it should.\nI cleaned and tested all cables leading to the spark plugs.\nI changed all the hoses I could find that were not flexible anymore, and the ones that had tears in them.\nFor air supply, I looked at the K-jetronic system and made all valves working and opening again. I cleaned the inside too. Since I had the manifold off, I cleaned the stuck throttle valve and tested it until it worked as it should.\nSince there was not enough pressure going into the injectors, I took apart the fuel distributor and found that it was gunked up.\nTrying to find the best rebuild I could find, I took the fuel distributor AND the warm-up regulator to the Netherlands to Gilles Bestebroer of \"K-jetronic Revisie\u201d, who teaches German Porsche mechanics at the renovation department how to work on these vintage Porsche parts.\nHe refurbished both parts for me.\nBack in New York, I flushed the gasoline lines between the filter and the distributor until clear gasoline came out.\nI installed the refurbished distributor and the warm-up regulator, and to be sure, I cleaned the auxiliary air valve and checked if it worked properly.\nFollowing the advice of Gilles Bestebroer, I adjusted the fuel-air ratio on the K-jetronic to spec.\nThe engine now reached full rev on the tachometer and the car can do a burnout at the traffic light (tested). Because it ran a little rough on low idle, I turned the idle speed up to 1000rpm for now.\nThe engine sounded a little raspy following a test drive, so I changed the oil from 10w40 to 20w50. I really grew a huge respect for the upholstery department of Porsche in the 1970s! They used filled piping to secure the bottom and top seat cushions and so to keep them perfectly in shape. so that\u2019s what we did, using the orange fabric from the middle to redo the piping. They also used metal wire to secure the leather of the bottom part of the seat (sewed into the fabric). So we used the same technique to put it back together too.\nSome parts of the foam were indeed in bad shape, but we fixed that! The seats are foam with a layer wool-padding on top.
