I located this car for him a few years ago just after it was acquired at the Monterey auction, where its proceeds were donated to charity by the previous owner. At that time, it passed a California inspection, in anticipation of it potentially being acquired by a local buyer. The results of that inspection can be viewed in the attached CarFax report. \r\n\r\nIt's truly the cleanest car of this vintage that my brother or I have ever seen, and is in great mechanical condition as well. It's a truly original low-mileage example of one of the last air cooled turbos. It\u2019s always been owned by collectors. Much original documentation was preserved and is included in the photos. You can see the garage it\u2019s been stored in since my brother has owned it. He has never driven it in the rain or winter. It was in 2009, shortly after the second owner in Wisconsin acquired the car. As you can see in the attached adjuster\u2019s report, there was damage to the drivers\u2019 door. The door skin was apparently replaced, and a few other components were repaired or replaced, with a total estimate of $15,957.82 in the report, including all parts, paint and labor. The car\u2019s condition was otherwise noted as excellent in that report, and in the three subsequent inspections, also attached. Detailed paint depth readings are shown in a separate video, confirming an apparent new door skin and some paint blending on the drivers\u2019 side of the car. Bidders can draw their own conclusions as to why CarFax would portray the damage as they have in its new \u201caccident severity\u201d feature. They also note the car has had 7 owners. I had more or less just gotten the car and we were having trouble getting the OBD port to work properly for its emissions test. I took it to a shop to have them take a look... they tweaked it and took it for a test drive. On the test drive a brand new driver was turning onto the same road this car (98% chance) was being driven on. There were some poorly-placed decorative planting she couldn't see around, so she \"floored it\" as she told police later. It was an interesting choice and she impacted the driver side of the car.\r\n\r\nIt was a long repair process at a very, very good shop in Milwaukee. They reached out to Porsche for leather from the same lot this one was originally built from. It was repaired to a standard where I could no longer tell it had been damaged when I picked it up and several years later another shop called them to say insurance fraud had been committed with their name on the bill. That said, the work that was performed appears to be of very high quality. This is evidenced by the photos, videos and other inspection reports. On that latter point, each purchaser of this car has been aware of the incident and its repair. They, including my brother, commissioned their own assessments of the car. That includes Daniel Schmitt & Co., the well-known classic car dealer in St. Louis that my brother bought the car from, who did an on-site assessment prior to acquiring the car at the 2019 Bonhams\u2019 Quail Lodge Auction. \r\n\r\nI suppose one good point of having a US-delivered 911s is we can rely on CarFax reports as starting points in a prospective purchaser\u2019s assessment. You can see history back to when it was new, and in this case, there does appear to have been a repair done to the car in 2009. According to my brother, he asked Rene to take a close look at the repair that was done. When he went to pick the car up at the shop, Rene told him it was the cleanest 911 he'd ever seen. He did not even see dirt or dust inside as he removed the under-body protective panels and took a close look. He went on to say that this was like a time capsule and my brother might want to consider getting another driver 911 and try to preserve it in this condition. It's easiest if you own the car and have the records to help interpret it. I had a '98 C230 that I bought new and hung onto for 18 years. When I went to sell it 5 years ago the CarFax said it had 3 owners. I did lease and later purchased the vehicle, so that was part of the puzzle.\r\n\r\nWe have determined that my brother is this car's 5th owner. He lives in Massachusetts. The 4th owner lived in Texas, where it was registered after initially being registered in Montana by him or his company. The 3rd owner was from New Hampshire. The second owner lived in Wisconsin, and appears to be @sixspeed71, who commented below. He is the person that noted the vehicle was impacted on the drivers' door by a new driver as they were turning onto the street the car was doing a test-drive on after a service. That owner had purchased the car from its original owner, John Vito, just a few months before. Vito custom ordered the car from Brumo's Porsche in Jacksonville, Florida, on 17 December 1996. The car was built and delivered to Vito in Jacksonville on 11 July 1997, near the end of 993tt production.\r\n\r\nClassic car dealer Daniel Schmitt & Co. purchased this car from its Texas owner at the 2019 Quail Lodge Auction in Carmel, California. Prior to that auction, he replaced the tires and had it inspected in the Monterey area, ostensibly to show to a potential California purchaser that it can pass inspection there. That can be a challenge for many vehicles, as any Porsche owner in California can attest. Schmitt titled the car in Missouri before selling it to my brother a month or two after the auction.
