It had languished at the dealership since December of '06. I negotiated for 3 MONTHS before BMW put some additional trunk money on these to move them in August. Once that happened I was able to make the deal I wanted all along - a great price (well below invoice) as well as great trade-in value for my < 2 yr old E90 sedan. Every dealer had 1 or 2 of these, and nobody was buying. At ~$55k, there were other options out there and these were just unloved. Unjustly so IMHO, they are fantastic cars and look much better than the roadster version IMHO. The styling holds up well to this day.\n\nWhat a fantastic car. Kept it 8 years until last summer. Wish I hadn't let it go now. I had virtually zero problems with it (window seal under warranty, headlight switch under warranty, secondary air pump hose under warranty). Still had original brakes at 57k miles. Just a fantastic car, if a bit impractical unless bought as a second car, which for me it was.\n\nThis car should bring somewhere between $21k - $25k at this mileage and condition, probably towards the lower end of that range. \n\nI grew up in the Bay Area and took that road to Lake Berryessa many times decades ago. I visually checked front and rear and looks like about 7mm remaining. Why? German precision is built into this car in spades...to a fault. I watched reviews where it said it would be like a dog you had to drive by the scruff of its neck to get the most of it, and they're absolutely right. The Z4M is amazing on the track. I was passing 911 Turbo's with ease everywhere but the longer straights. So why did I sell? Because not every day is a track day, and driving this thing on roads was painfully emotion-free. Even with a Remus exhaust the inline 6 (a beauty motor) just sounded like a hyper-powered sewing machine killing any desire to rev and blurt just for fun. It's one of the few cars where I never felt she had any soul. It pained me to sell her, because I was hoping for so much more and it was a special purchase in my life, but ultimately there were just too many other cars in the garage that I enjoyed driving, and after the second summer in a row where it was completely passed over, I made the hard decision to sell. I never regretted it, and it's still a beautiful car to see on the road, but I'm glad I'm not behind the wheel. FWIW, I traded it in for another Italian. The roadster isn't nearly as stiff and is far less engaging. I cannot begin to tell you how stiff the chassis is in the Z4 M. I own an E46 M3 with the same engine, but the Z4 M feels more like a true sports car to me. You can really appreciate how much lighter and stiffer it is than the E46. To me the Z4 M coupe drives a little like a front engine Porsche. \n\nIs the Z4 M a comfortable car? Well, it is a low car to get into with a fairly tight cockpit (although bigger than the Z3 M). The seats are hard, the ride is stiff, and it has horrible blind spots. BUT, the car handles incredibly well and gives the feedback you like from a true sports car. I have yet to meet a car that I really love to drive that isn't uncomfortable to drive in some respect, either get used to it or buy something softer (maybe a GT car). \n\nThe production numbers on these cars are low and they will be a future classic. Spun the car a full 360 degrees, changed two lanes in the process and magically proceeded normally in the outside lane as usual. Not a scratch on the car. Underwear not so much.\r\n\r\nI think these will appreciate like wildfire in a few years. Everyone thinks the E46 M3 was the last of the normally aspirated M cars. These truly were. So much so, in fact, that it is the E46 and its owners that BMW has targeted with the M2 - the lighter, more agile \"real M car\". How do I know? I have some E46 Ms and a Z4M. I also have a GT3, and the Z4M is a pleasant and exciting alternative on some days. This is a car some people underestimate. Apparently some people have found it disappointing.
