My example (also a 3-speed automatic) will do a GPS-verified 80+ mph on the freeway with the rag roof rolled back and all the windows open (nifty mid-hinged rear windows and front vent windows included). Admittedly, it's dog slow, so it takes a while to get up to that speed and there's a ton of wind noise whether the windows are open or closed, but for those with experience with Minis and other classics, the acceleration shouldn't be surprising or off-putting. I will say that with barn-flat bodysides and zero tumblehome on the greenhouse, strong lateral wind buffetting is an interesting experience.\n\nWe recently drove the Pao in this year's Woodward Dream Cruise, and it reliably got more thumbs ups, smiles, cameraphone snaps and friendly \"What the hell is that thing?\" questions than any other car I've ever driven. In fact, it got more attention than just about any street rod or exotic I saw -- at one point, more than one person stepped out into (slow-moving) traffic, walking right past a Lamborghini Aventador to take photos of our car. (I think people reasonably assume that you have to have a good sense of humor to drive this car, and as such, feel far more comfortable approaching the driver and asking questions.)\n\nI bought the Pao because I've always been fascinated by the design and Nissan's Pike Factory. In truth, what I've been wanting for a while is a classic Mini, or 2CV, or Renault 4 for that drive-small, bare-bones throwback experience, but went with the Pao because it's much rarer, much cheaper, and theoretically at least, more reliable. \n\nI have zero regrets.
