Had nasty rust all along the rattle-canned rockers and this really strange shimmy from the front end that increased in intensity proportionate to my speed. And 'speed' was definitely a relative term. My dad gave one to me for my 14th birthday. It was wrecked, the whole front end crunched up, but he also got me a one-piece fiberglass tilt up front end. I still remember hi/ us trying to learn how to tune the carbs. It kind of scared me from ever working on cars with him. We got it running and it ran great. Since it was still far from road legal, I just \"stole\" it out of the barn and drove it down the dirt roads behind our house. It was great fun, like a dirt track go-cart. Decades later, I once again pulled it out of storage, then stored above me dads machine shop. The oil from his lathes and mills had kept it well preserved. No rust at all. I once again started to work on it from time to time. But since it had that front end, I decided to not keep it original but take as much weight off it as I could. So off came the windshield, out came the roll-up windows. Still not street legal, I drove it around the town and on the county roads. Still great fun. love that 1098 engine. It reved nicely and made good useable torque. Best go cart ever. About ten years ago, I finally sold it and have regretted it more than any car I have ever sold. I took it on ski trips, hiking and climbing trips, and driving to school and work. It did require regular maintenance, but no major repairs in all that time. I wish I still had it and wonder where it is today. Perhaps my experience is unique. Well, I guess it was mostly for the boys, because we went to Bonneville for dad to catch some timing and spent a whole day at the Peterson Auto Museum. I was completely smitten and had to have one.\n\n\n\nI spent the better part of two years trying to locate an S600 and had my checkbook ready for four of them. But even ten years ago, they were well sought out and at around 5000-6000 for excellent driver examples, you really had to be the early bird. I passed two up because they were rust buckets with stuck engines, and I knew enough not to bother.\n\n\n\nI got tired of looking and wanted a runabout to have fun with my girlfriend to replace the CB400F. So I bought a Spridget.\n\n\n\nIt was in about the same condition as this car, and it didn't run. The carbs were stuck, the points were shot, and the steering wheel was off about 90 degrees. I over-paid. It didn't matter, because after I got it running, we were the coolest 30 year-olds anywhere in Montreal. I spent too many hours drilling out stuck brake cylinders, cleaning the carbs, drilling stuck head studs, reupholstering the seats, cleaning the carbs, changing the radiator, cleaning the carbs, rebuilding the lever shocks, cleaning the carbs... And at the end of it all, I was worried to take it out very far, for fear of something going wrong and being stranded (did you know the tach pick-off is IN SERIES with the coil?). Again.\n\n\n\nCompared to everything I had read about the Honda S-car, this seemed so agricultural. I loathed it. I happened across this MG in October 2011 after searching for one for a very long time. I had lusted after a little British roadster for years and was finally at a point in my life where I could have one, namely that I had a garage to keep it in. I had some criteria: it had to be a chrome bumper '60s vintage and it had to be green. So one day I was perusing my area ads, and spotted this '66. When I saw that it was only a couple of miles from my house in a rural canyon area in the foothills, I thought it had to be kismet. We went to see it straight away, 2 year old in tow. The seller told us he was the 3rd owner, that his uncle was the 2nd owner, and that they had spent years rebuilding it together after it had sat for a couple of decades in his uncle's barn. He had many fond memories of this project and he was extremely reluctant to part with the car, but he needed the money. As we signed the bill of sale, he showed us an album of restoration photos, which I tried to get him to part with, but understandably he would not. He did give us the original owners manual, a box of spare parts, dashpot oil, the original luggage rack, restoration manuals, and the like, all of which is included in this sale. As I drove that car home that day along the windy mountain roads of Colorado, I was in heaven. Fall is still my favorite time to drive it, particular on crisp September days with the wind whipping and the heater cranking.
