That tag would have been mounted on the drivers side dash in the corner near the window on a 73 Ghia. Similar to our modern cars.\r\n Body I.D. plates with the vin# were installed in the front right side panel inside the \"frunk\". \r\nThere is certainly nothing wrong with doing a body swap if that was indeed the route taken. Back in 1974, while stationed at Ft. Carson, CO. I came across a Beautiful 1959 Karman Ghia Coupe off the original owner, that had 98,000 well cared for garage kept miles. That was solid with no rust, clean underneath except for engine oil leaks and lots of blowback. It ran ok but tired. Like downshifting on every hill tired! So I fixed that with the help of a good friend in my barracks who was into Corvairs. He sold me a Chevy Corvair automatic power pack, with a 110 hp, 2 speed PowerGlide with 3:55 posi. That totally fit with the stock bumpers! But didn\u2019t sound like a VW! Needless to say was faster! Quite a bit faster! Like almost 911 quicker, but faster? I don\u2019t know how fast it would go, but the engine was good for 4,800! At 2,500 would go 72 mph. This one was a true labor of love.\r\n\r\nRegarding various comments:\r\n\r\n- It is the original '73 body that has been retro modified to an older look. A lot of welding took place. It's all metal, no fiberglass or filler.\r\n\r\n- Picture #29 is unfortunate. There is no scratch or dent or other issue with the body of the car anywhere.\r\n\r\n- It does not have a radio\r\n\r\n- It doesn't have wiper arms only because I haven't bought them and put them on. The motor works perfectly. I don't drive the car in the rain ever, so it hasn't been a priority.\r\n\r\n- The engine was built on a solid case with all new parts. Pistons/cylinders, crank. cam, the works. It also has a Gene Berg oil pump, spin on oil filter and an external oil cooler.
