I added the brake light, the horn, mirror and DOT tires and got the vin inspection through the DMV and have valid title in my name. Here\u2019s a summary of my response.\r\n\r\nI bought the bike with 18 hours on the clock with no prior records. At that time, I changed the oil, filter, air filter, spark plug, drained the fuel tank, changed the coolant and cleaned and oiled the chain. I then had done 3 solo rides in California of about 2 hrs each and one here in Colorado of about (1 hour) in the summer of \u201923. \r\n\r\nAs it just isn\u2019t the type of bike for me, it has basically been in inside storage since then with an occasional start to make sure all was good. So total hours are approximately 25 and as the writeup says about 500 miles (though when the od quit, it was around 430 miles as I remember). This was after the CO ride mentioned.\r\n\r\nThat said, any bike (or car) I buy used, I do a maintenance to the point I feel necessary \u2013 to \u201creset the clock\u201d so to speak. Again, that\u2019s what I did when I purchased the bike.\r\n\r\nSince moving to Colorado from California, the bike has run well, though not optimally as it is carbureted and with 5500\u2019 of elevation difference, it is not at peak performance here, running richer than at sea level. The engine in these bikes is the RFS engine ( RFS stands for Racing Four Stroke ) and may well be the best single-cylinder four stroke engine KTM ever made. You can kick start this bike when the battery is flat and unable to spin the electric starter, and the bike will start and get you home. Also there's no fuel pump, so the fuel system really has no failure points. Motorcycles don't get any more reliable than one of these RFS-engine KTMs.\r\n\r\nThere's a wealth of knowledge available for these bikes. The best web forum is KTMTalk. I have a low hour 2007 EXC that makes a fantastic dual sport bike especially if you're more about dirt riding than streetriding. This MXC being road legal in Colorado is very similar. Also with the MXC you get the slightly larger fuel tank which is great. I put one on my EXC to extend it's range.
