A friend of mine had one in the late '70s, it was used but he was the second owner and the first owners were an old couple that took good care of the car. When we'd go into Seattle to catch a concert we always took his T-Bird because it held six or more, rode good and the heater and AC, depending on the season, worked great. The 428 in the 66 blew and I didn't have any money , so I traded the no longer running 66 for a 69 4 door bird , a 62 Mercury Meteor 4 door and a 63 Mercury Meteor 2 door.\n\nWhy my parents allowed a 16 yr old to own a car with that kind of power is not clear \nBut wow , would that baby lay some rubber \n\nAnd you could take all your friends to the drive in movie , and the back seat had plenty of room to make out with your girl \n\nMy father couldn't understand why the back tires never lasted very long and why the bearings in the rear diff had to be replaced so often . Apparently lots of long wheel spin slings the oil off of the bearings \n\nThat was THE most powerful engine I've ever driven , in a nice comfortable road cruiser ,20 years later after I had children I wish I had that bigbird, what a great family car , room for 6, decent MPG if you were not racing , power seats ,cruise , AC, sequential turn signals , suicide doors , \n\nif you replaced the air filter with one from a 74 cutlass rocket 350, which was about an inch taller , exposing the paper air filter , when you floored it and opened up the four barrels , well, I can't think of a better sound in the entire world than a 429 4 barrel at full throttle !\n\n And you can put a good sound system in it is you spend all day removing every piece of trim on the inside to replace the rear deck speakers and replace the door speakers .
