There is no OOMPH to this design. No passion. Where there should be elements of Italian flair there is instead muted blandness. Headlight look like something borrowed from Fiat's parts bin and their placement almost makes the car appear cross-eyed when viewed from head on and the side profile, with that low waste, which looks incredible on, say, a Jaguar E-Type, looks like it was an accident here. And why do the quarter light windows not at least try to accentuate the roofline? They appear to be fighting the overall look of the car. As if they were made to actually be useful... function over form... NOT Italian AT ALL! And that horrid orange interior is just... okay. Enough. They are a little bit vague and a little bit notchy and they require a decent bit of time to actually set up the shift mechanism itself properly whereby you use a couple of bob weights that we have in the Maserati special tool cabinet. But the rarity of the true manual definitely makes this car a collectible. \n\n These dry sump engines did not (or very rarely) have any issues with the timing variators so I wouldn't be worried about that but the biggie on this engine would be to make sure there are no leaks from the combined oil/water pump down on the lower right-hand side of the crankcase. \n\n It is still early and I have not made it through my 1st cup of coffee yet so I didn't make it through the entire bit of ad copy but you also want to know that the heater core is either not leaking or has been replaced and that the general function of all the electrics is 100%. Beyond that, really not a lot to worry about on these cars so I have to say good luck to the buyer and the seller! Not an attractive car in my eyes and one of the only cars that when I see them in the wild they actually make me irritated because I think of all the wasted effort that went into the design and build of one of the great marquees. Maserati's should be sexy... this just isn't. It looks quite a bit like the fifth generation (1990 era) Toyota Celica which wasn't a bad looking car... so how come this Maserati misses the mark? Frankly, I LOVE it. It is great looking, sounds like nothing else on the road (stock even), is packing Ferrari power, and is quite nimble for a 4,000 lb. car. I have had it for a little over a year; flew up and bought off a Chicago car lot where it was traded in on a new Porsche. Drove it home to South Carolina the next day with zero issues. I cannot find anything wrong with the car; literally everything works on it and it looks wonderful from every angle; never a hiccup of any kind. These cars don't get driven a lot typically and pretty much only then on sunny days and weekends so they don't get roughed up. I don't consider myself a \"car guy\" because I simply don't know the hobby well enough yet, but since I bought this car, I've picked up a 2000 XKR and a 2001 996 C4. The Maserati stacks up well against both of them and frankly, I love the the F1---the XKR is full auto and the Porsche is a 3-pedal six, so I even have a couple of reasonable comparisons for it. I went through the car with the Formula Dynamics service kit (filters, plugs, fluids, etc nose to tail for something like $700) and that was that. Parts are readily available through Eurospares and a number of places in the U.S. I even found a brand new hood insulating pad from Eurospares (mice got to the original apparently) for something like \u00a335---with the original factory stickers on it. Got the \"sticky\" buttons fixed in Florida (by mail) and otherwise I just put gas in it. It will need rotors/pads in a year or two but Formula Dynamics has that covered with several different options. \n\nGuess I'm just saying that $100,000 cars for this kind of money are not something to turn your nose up at.
