My dad had purchased a new '62 Buick Special Deluxe with the 215 cubic inch V8 and it had proven to be nothing but trouble. Maybe built on a bad day, I don't know. I \"sold\" him on the Volvo partly because Volvo had come out with an auto transmission for the '65 model year which suited my mom to a tee. Tragically, she died in 1969 and my dad followed in 1971. He was a Teamster for most of his life but about a year before he died, he turned in his driving license and sold me the Volvo for $1.00. My true daily driver has been a '67 two-door 122S 4-speed for many years but I enjoy driving the automatic as well. I'm sure Volvo saw the writing on the wall back in the mid-sixties and know that automatic transmissions throughout their line was the way to increase market share.
