I owned a 1980 300TD wagon, and though it was a bit rough around the edges with 250K-plus miles on it, the upholstery was still basically flawless. I used to see old Benzes at Pick'n'Pull which were utterly trashed otherwise, but had lovely undamaged seats.\n\nThese are wonderful cars. The engines aren't indestructible, contrary to legend; they will wear out if they are neglected. Will take you wherever you want to go, and with just a little interest from the owner can become a fun companion to your daily commute. Most issues can be solved with changing out the glow plugs as stated below, replacing the injectors, adjusting the valves, and on these mostly air controlled transmissions, buying a good air pressure gauge to make sure that you don't have any air leaks. One the few that I have owned, a trans shift kit keeps the trans shifting hard and healthy for years to come.
