The finished product makes the work and expense worth the while, especially if the stock V8 hemi engine is hiding under the bonnet. Almost all parts for the car are available through several sources in the UK and US and fantastic on-line forum support is available through a strong SP250 following. While this project isn't for the faint of heart, the body, floor boards, doors are all fiberglass and can be saved given enough matting, resin and patience! If purchased at the right price (Hagerty valuation of 6 as mentioned previously!!), this would be a challenging but worth while project. No one has mentioned that these were first released as the Daimler Dart but apparently there is or was a small car company somewhere in an ex-colony on the other side of the Atlantic that had already laid claim to that moniker, so it then received the SP250 appellation.\r\n\r\nOur local constabulary (a part of London) employed these for a number of years, not the best idea for overweight policemen who are supposed to wear their hats while on duty. However, they seemed effective in being able to run with almost everything that our \"crooks\" would employ, with the exception of then ubiquitous 3.8 Mk 2 Jags. \r\n\r\nThese are great engines and there used to be a \"slingshot\" dragster that ran with one (the engine classes in early British drag racing - typically at Santa Pod raceway - were very different from those in the USA) that was particularly successful and had an aural signature that was unique.\r\n\r\nI assume everyone is aware of the similarity between certain aspects of the engine design and the same parts of one of the most successful racing motorcycle engines of the early post-war years. (I'm biased, there is a Norton in my garage.....)\r\n\r\nYes, the car is certainly \"different\" when it comes to aesthetics but there are many who don't mine \"different\", especially when the car has excellent dynamic qualities and interesting aspects of its design. I'd really like to think it will be saved and returned to at least a simulation of its original configuration and not bastardized but sadly I'm now far too old to even consider such a monumental challenge, given all the other projects in the garage. However the V8 Daimler motors are available because they were put into the Jaguar body Daimlers when Jaguar took them over. The Daimler SP 250 has the same motor however the Pan and intakes are a little different to the Sedans.
