I've shared this retrospective before, and now feel motivated to do so again.\nNot sure when grandpa quit driving, but his truck was kept around many years after for trips up \u201cthe hill\u201d to the vacant old family farm in Rhineland, MO. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad driving us kids up there in his old truck. Me and my siblings and/or cousins would be seated in the bed facing backwards against the cab on a board spanning a couple of concrete blocks. Our \u201cseatbelt\u201d was a rope tied on each end to a couple of bed stakes on either front corner. We could watch the road pass under our feet through the holes in the rotted wood floor boards.\nOf course, we didn\u2019t always use the \u201cseat belt\u201d. Much of the time we\u2019d be standing up looking over the cab while bouncing up the farm road, often ducking to avoid being bushwhacked by a low hanging branch.\nOnce up on the farm, we\u2019d visit the two ponds, fruitlessly attempting to catch bull frogs\u2026 while successfully collecting ticks and chigger bites. We\u2019d also poke around the old farmhouse and surrounding sheds where dad grew up.\nDon\u2019t recall exactly when the truck was sold. Pretty sure it was around 1980. I have a picture of it freshly washed in preparation for the sale. Probably the only time the truck had ever been washed by anyone other than Mother Nature. I did learn on a 1960 F-100 three-on-the-tree that was beat to hell, a restored example of which I have since added to my personal garage. This is damn similar to my grandfathers farm truck (including I think color/trim - although minus the farm lettering on the doors and maybe it was a dark blue?) in northern Vermont. He'd inevitably get it stuck every mud season or so it seemed, and have to get the oxen to pull it out (grumbling the entire time...g-ddam it anyway...). He was an old soul. For a while, he had one of the largest dairy outfits in the state into the mid-60's, and he had this as his personal runabout and an early 60's C50 or C60 I believe for heavy hauling/transport.
