It's always a pleasure to follow the lines of these cars, whether the graceful curves of the fenders or the assertive straight edges and angles of the \"bonnet\" leading out to that robust little radiator. Enough people have already commented on the black and silver paint combo and tastes will differ. My own taste runs to one or the other, but not both. For what it's worth, I lean to the silver. The black does show off certain aspects of the chromed trim very well. Consider the chromed edging of the gas tank and how clearly it stands out against the black. That's a plus. But the black interior disappears against the black exterior and that's a minus. The interior of this car is really spectacular, not least the very tastefully done dashboard, the pleated seats and all of the surround work. In that regard, I think the silver works better on bringing out the lines of this car, especially the brightwork ... Ah, yes, bling... There seems to be quite a lot of extra chrome stuff, liked the wing\u00e8d (I used the accent advisedly) radiator cap, the fog lamps, and the rally bar replete with badges. Why not go the whole route and add chromed stone guards, too? That would underline the drift towards an SS 100. But I digress... There has been a phenomenal amount of work done on this car, and it really does show in these photos. The paintwork looks flawless. The engine has been nicely done, right down to that authentic brass seal, and the original black firewall strikes a note of authenticity. I note the long, narrow lid at the very rear of the passenger compartment: the hidey hole for the side curtains. However, I did not see any photos of the side curtains or, for that matter, the roof. Any chance of seeing them? There also are some tantalizing shots of the frame and other bits of the undercarriage. Is it too late to get a full view of the undercarriage? Might be fun to see those new floorboards which, if they are like the originals, will soak up grease and dirt like nobody's business. The MGTD is the little car that launched America into its sports car craze of the 1950s. This car tells why. But many vehicles never had matching numbers from the beginning. Honda motorcycles are one example. I recently went to register a motorcycle with matching engine and frame numbers and the department of motor vehicles stalled on my application. How come? The clerk had never experienced matching numbers before... Not long ago, I had the opportunity to buy a Fiat Dino body minus its engine and a Fiat Dino engine minus its body. I felt there would be greater value in putting them together -- matching numbers or not -- than in keeping them apart. What's the value of a Fiat Dino body minus a Fiat Dino engine? What's the value of a Fiat Dino engine minus the Fiat Dino body? My buyer agreed... Even swapping out an original engine for something new has its merits. I love those old sports cars produced by A.C. Cars... but I really prefer what Carroll Shelby did with them. The Brits were hard pressed for exports and hard currency, and they rationed steel based on export success. These cars exported like crazy and took little steel to make. That provided large ration allowances for home market sedans.
