The Isuzu V6 engines are notoriously prone to having stuck oil control rings at higher mileages and using prodigious amounts of oil. Both of mine consumed LOTS of oil (can't remember the quarts vs miles...but way too much oil used). If you had more miles under your ownership I would be curious to know how this one is doing. I looked at the carfax and did not see a timing belt or clutch...any records of those being done? Underneath, this one looks pretty good. My 96 had holes in the frame when I sold it for $800. The frame rot was unexpected because everything else on the body and interior looked really nice. Do you happen to have the retractable cargo cover? Although generally reliable, some parts are getting tough to find. I\u2019ll be checking in regularly to answer questions here, and if you want to reach me directly, just use the Contact Seller button above. \r\n\r\nTo give a little background on the vehicle; I bought the truck in November of last year from the original owner, a local college music professor. He bought the Trooper new, and used as his daily driver until I purchased it last winter. The original sales documents are included in the photos. Unfortunately, the PO did not keep meticulous records after purchase; the sales docs that were in the glovebox and the title are the only paperwork I received with the truck. That didn\u2019t concern me as the vehicle presented itself in well-cared-for condition, and it's overall condition was pretty clear. While the previous owner did not keep records, you can see in the included CarFax that he did perform regular maintenance on the vehicle. I have receipts for the parts that I have replaced during my ownership, a Snap-On OBD scan showing no faults, and the vehicle passed Virginia Safety Inspection in June of this year.\r\n\r\nTo address some of the early questions from @Yellowtr6: I believe the clutch to be original based on my conversations with the previous owner, and my experience driving the Trooper. It shifts well, and the clutch shows no sign of slipping, even in the high gear/low speed test. Pressure plate feels good with no stiffness, and the pedal returns smoothly. I did a visual inspection of the timing belt, but I have no record of it\u2019s last replacement. I do not have the retractable cargo cover, I feel like that\u2019s always one of the first things to be removed from wagon-bodied vehicles like this and subsequently lost. \r\n\r\nThe mileage I\u2019ve reported during my ownership is indeed accurate, just under 100 miles. I had designs on a mild overland/camping build, and even picked up a winch for it (which I still have). Unfortunately, a short time after purchasing the Trooper, a family member had some serious health issues, which absorbed most of the time I had to work on the truck, and any of the time I\u2019ve had to really enjoy it.\r\n\r\nRegarding oil consumption, I haven\u2019t driven it enough to say for sure, but it doesn\u2019t exhibit any evidence of engine trouble or burning oil. The Carfax shows regular oil changes. The truck starts right up without any smoke, has plenty of power, and is great to drive. We have two (a 98 and 2000). My wife had an 86 when we first met. \r\n\r\nWe drive our current fleet all over Colorado. With good tires they can go pretty much anywhere. \r\n\r\nTo the seller and future owner: Check your oil obsessively. Both of ours consume 1/2 to 1 quart PER TANK. \r\n\r\nThe culprit as @turnerd says is clogged, under sized oil drain back holes. I would not put seafoam, acetone, or kreen (basically MEK) in the crank case. You could destroy valve guides and eat seals. Note: oil consumption is not a problem on older Troopers. Our first gen Trooper II didn\u2019t use a drop. \r\n\r\nOther common maintenance items:\r\nIntake manifold gaskets-if it\u2019s stalling they\u2019re leaking\r\nThat flexible line between the two fuel rails loves to crack and leak. The 2000 model is all metal\r\nSpark plug boots and plugs\r\n\r\nOther than that, ours have been indestructible. I did remove and refinish all of the gold-colored exterior trim and the bumper covers, and reinstalled them. No panels were replaced. I have attached some photos of that work while it was in process so you can see the condition of the metal body panels underneath.\r\n\r\n@jrandman The 5th gear noise is a typical gear noise, only heard when you're cruising in 5th at ~40-50mph. I recommend watching the test drive video; you can hear it around the 2:00 mark. My forum reading on this led to notes about a TSB for noise coming through the shift boot that dealers subsequently added insulation for(https://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5561). At highway speeds, there is no noise, and it has zero problems shifting or staying in gear while it's being driven. There is no noise in any other gear or at higher or lower speeds. It has never concerned me, but I made note of it for full transparency. Transmission, transfer case, and axle fluids were all changed during my ownership, no change in the noise. \r\n\r\nThe CD player powers on and off as normal, but it will not accept CDs. The AM/FM radio functions work as they should; I have not tested the cassette player.\r\n\r\nRegarding the questions about the A/C, I will pick up a recharge kit and report back with results. I also added dye for future diagnostic purposes should they be necessary.\r\n\r\n@Cotapaxi The rust on the frame does not affect structural integrity; it would not have passed safety inspection were that the case. If I were keeping the truck, I would clean it up and POR-15 the whole thing. I did not have any issues with rusted or broken hardware, and never had need of a torch to remove any hardware. I did apply PB Blaster to some of the suspension hardware before putting a wrench to it; that was a preventative measure. I did replace the right front lower shock bolt and nut because the threads were stripped; the bolt did not break. Differential and transfer case fluids were changed during my ownership. For the 4WD system - The transfer case shifts easily from high to low and engages properly. The shift-on-the-fly button works, as does the indicator in the instrument cluster, but I was not able to get the front axle to engage on it's own.
