I acquired this car last year with plans to do a full restoration and have it replace my v8 Esprit. I have put a lot of miles on this S1 after my restoration, fully enjoying everything it has to offer. But I just can\u2019t bring myself to sell my v8. I have had it forever and I now realize it will likely be a lifelong car for me. So this one has to go as I\u2019m short on parking spaces at the moment and would like the cash to finish other projects. \r\n\r\nA little background on the car - I purchased it in running and original but not in amazing shape. Word is that the car had the body off and the chassis was refurbished within the last 10 or 15 years. This shows as the metal and chassis are in amazing shape and rust free, setting a good baseline for the car. I have some very grainy photos of the body off the chassis. I think the engine was also redone at the time but I have no proof, but compression, cleanliness and a lot of parts that were stamped 2013 point that way. Anyway I decided to pretty much go over the entirety of the car mechanically, have the car painted in its original carnival red and left the interior original as it presents itself well. \r\n\r\nThe entirety of the car has pretty much been gone through in the last year and runs very well. I have receipts for a lot of the parts, but some I already had, or purchased in private sales therefore don\u2019t have receipts for all. The list of work done is below \r\n\r\n\r\n-gates blue timing belt and tensioner bearing \r\n-water pump \r\n-thermostat \r\n-Front and back rotors and pads\r\n-braided brake lines, braided oil pressure gauge line and braided clutch line\r\n-new tires\r\n-lower control arm bushings \r\n-anti roll bar bushings to control arm \r\n-adjustable shocks and top mount bushings \r\n-4 u-joints on the driveshafts with grease fittings \r\n-lower ball joints \r\n-steering rack boot\r\n-brand new steering column \r\n-tie rod ends \r\n-front and rear wheel bearings \r\n-radius arm bushings\r\n-rear lower links and 4 bushings \r\n-motor mount upgrade kit from SJ \r\n-motor braces fitted\r\n-all 6 trans mount bushings replaced \r\n-slave cylinder \r\n-tanks cleaned \r\n-countless new hoses \r\n-valve cover gaskets\r\n-cap, rotor, wires, plugs \r\n-carbs rebuilt \r\n-new fuel pump \r\n-starter\r\n-hatch struts \r\n-battery\r\n-larger aluminum radiator and hoses \r\n-headlight motor and linkage repaired \r\n-4 new headlights \r\n-front splitter \r\n-front and rear euro bumpers\r\n-rear euro valance \r\n-countless body gaskets \r\n-window motor guides regreased and new clips \r\n-fuse box upgraded (old included)\r\n-all fluids changed \r\n-fresh oil change\r\n-license plate surround \r\n-alignment \r\n-catch can ( the original pcv design dumped right into the air filter so any blow by will get oil on the filter. This isn\u2019t necessary to have and can be removed easily)\r\n\r\nI\u2019m sure I\u2019m missing some stuff but long story short this car is very well sorted. \r\n\r\nThe only things I can think of that are cons on this car is some interior discoloration and a sewn tear on the passenger seat, but the fabrics aren\u2019t brittle, and actually quite supple and soft. The only other things I can think of is the front and rear quarter glass, they have some scratches around the edges from I\u2019m assuming a previous owner using a brush to remove the paint around the window trim. These are pictured and honestly not that bad. A new set of glass can be had for around $400 from SJ but it never bothered me enough to tackle. A period looking Bluetooth radio has been added but I never wired it to the speakers. \r\n\r\nIncluded are some extra parts including everything needed to swap Dellorto carbs into the car. One of the carbs has stripped threads for one or the air valves though. I\u2019m sure a machine shop could sort that out easily. You've done a great job of making this good car into a great car, whilst retaining originality aspects that are not easily replaced. Namely the interior. An original \"tartan\" interior, though faded has to be cherished. I would only note that the tartan is red and green, not \"blue\". That's just due to fading. The 1970's \"shag pile\" carpet is also not replaceable these days.\n\nThis is probably one of the best original and sorted Esprit S1s that I have seen come up for sale, and I can only compare it to another red S1 about 12-18 months ago that was in similar shape. The fact that the bumpers and rear valance (often missed on US concersions) has been converted to Euro spec takes this car back to what Giorgio Giugiaro intended back in the 1970's. It's such a clean look. Including a set of Del'lorto carburettors is a absolute winner for the next owner to fix and enjoy the fruits of their labour with the extra horsepower that they provide.\n\nHaving taken 8 years to restore my own UK Esprit S1, and having completed a challenging 130 mile round trip through the North York Moors today I can only say that the tartan interior is what gives the car the \"wow factor\". Everyone comments on it, and I had 6 people come up to me in a small, quiet market place this evening to say just that in the 10 minutes I stopped there for a comfort break.\n\nIt'll be interesting to see that this exceptional example fetches. I have redone the valve covers on the car. They\u2019re nearly impossible to seal since the engine lays on its side but they\u2019re pretty dry. I drive the car a lot and when I do I don\u2019t see any leaks. I have had it sitting for a week while the car is listed and I did notice one single drop below them from sitting with oil held in the covers. So yes the car is nearly leak free apart from the occasional drop which is expected with the s1s. \n\n2. I originally wanted the car to be absolutely perfect in every way and redo the interior. It was going to be the last step of the process, so after driving it for some time while i worked on the other stuff i just ended up liking the patina and originality of the interior. It\u2019s in really good condition given its age and i had a lot of people express the same thought. I just thought the risk of tearing it up wouldn\u2019t outweigh the reward since it looks presentable while retaining originality. The glovebox has never really had a problem though. It closes and holds well although the right side sits up ever so slightly. \n\n3. For the carbs the only thing that held me back was the single stripped needle valve thread. I would have had to take it to the machine shop to get that fixed and just never got around to it. I rebuilt one of the dellortos before I got to the second and noticed that.
