It was perfect for a crazy idea to turn it into electric car - given the mileage and difficultly of getting California smog passed. But someone bought it before I had a chance to see in person. I was driving an 88 Esprit at the time, but had a hankering for a Giugiaro Esprit. As 'luck' would have it, my 88 was destroyed in a commute accident on HWY 17 and I later bought an 87 Giugiaro Esprit. This one in silver is very nice looking; pulling no punches, this one has significant work to be done especially with 120K miles on the clock. My CA smog-obsessive focus noticed the non-standard catalyst, the plugged hose on the EGR (?) valve, and lack of separate muffler (straight pipe). But it is fairly complete and the production number WORLDWIDE was 324 Turbo Esprits for 1985. They do have smaller hands that help ALOT. Both of my Esprits had/have fuel injection and the fire danger is minimized. The Turbo Esprit with carburetors, they are blow through (pressurized carburetor) so if they leak, the risk of fire is high since you got a turbo blowing gasoline on the engine. If you maintain it and rebuilt the carburetors by the book (and replace any obviously old fuel lines), it should not be an issue. Given the condition of this car from the photographs, I'd recommend the carb rebuild being Priority #2 (#1 is replacing the timing belt since it's from 2009).
