I'm not really sure what that means of how it is possible the car got a replacement VIN. Looking at the picture of the firewall, where the VIN should be, I see there are some details in the sheet metal that are missing. Normally, you would see a raised area with the VIN stamped on it. This is missing from this car. WHY?\r\n\r\nIn the nineties, the late Gary Valant repaired a crash damaged Duetto. The car was hit and slid into a guard rail. The rear of the car was so badly damaged, that it needed to be cut off and a rear clip added. The cuts were made in the middle of the door. It is documented in the book, Alfa Romeo Giulia: History and Restoration written by Braden and Weber. Gary made a few continuations, one of which is what we called the FrankenAlfa. The car retained the VIN as it is on the front half of the car.\r\n\r\nIt's possible this white car has suffered some bad crash damage, but we can only speculate until we hear from the seller. I've seen the VIN are of a firewall removed and transplanted on another car. It's illegal, but I've seen it done and it was a seamless repair. I would want a professional to inspect this car before paying the seller. I would want to make sure this car is safe to drive.\r\n\r\nIf the seller doesn't respond to the request with a reasonable and logical reason, it would run from this car. It is specific to the vehicle and how the Pininfarina factory kept track of the car during build.
