I believe there is a harness repair kit but haven't verified this. \r\nThe rear glass switch was replaced a year ago. The tailgate wiring issue with these cars is quite common. There are two hinges for the glass and two for the tailgate itself. The hinges on the passenger side of the car house most of the wires, but there are some wires in all four hinges. I rewired the right side door hinge, which houses about 15 wires controlling license plate lights, tail lights, and I think also the tailgate switch. It was a DIY job with lots of wiring splices and soldering and shrink tubing. It took me about 6 hrs. Nothing super tech about it, just tedious work. There are several online write ups that were very helpful. \n\nRecently the passenger side hinge for the glass started pulling hard on the harness in there and the FM radio reception went on the blink, which is another common problem with these cars. I was able to release the tension on he harness some and the reception is normal again. \n\nTypical higher mileage BMW type stuff. \n\nWe use our car as a daily driver thrasher and kid and dog hauler, so our tailgate goes up and down many times per day. \n\nWe also haul our dog cross country in ours. It\u2019s a comfortable highway car that makes long days tolerable.\n\nThe sunroof drain issue is common and ours experienced this also. It is an easy fix. You remove the overengineered drain filters at the end of the rear drain tubes so the tubes flow again. These tubes are accessed through the trunk liner from the inside. Like the tailgate, lots of DIY info online. The ride and drive is as it should be with all systems including clutch, transmission, differentials, CV joints, exhaust, steering and brakes, AC, radio, infamous iDrive, tires, alignment, wheel balance, window, seat and sunroof functions fully operational.\r\n\r\nWe focused our photos (pun intended) on all the areas that have rust potential on a car body. The \"Fast Facts\" book issued to dealers by BMW states the 2006 was the year that BMW made substantial improvements in their rust prevention methods. Furthermore this car spent a number of years in CO and was driven relatively few miles per year here.. There is absolutely no sign of rust anywhere.\r\n\r\nThe rear window does not operate without a viable electric switch. Replaced a year ago and failed again I'm afraid. This is an easy fix.\r\n\r\nI haven't encountered any drainage problem but understand that if, when one develops cleaning the openings is pretty straightforward.\r\n\r\nPlease let me know if I missed anything and THANK YOU for all the great questions and helpful comments.
