Doing that is more than a simple drop-in engine exchange. The 3.4 requires uprated front springs, a more substantial radiator, and a different starting choke set-up (manual to auto control). This conversion seems to have been done quite a while ago, so all the bugs were undoubtedly worked out years ago. Amusing \u201cJaguar 3.4\u201d placard on the dash to cover the vertical slot where the manual choke lever used to be. And if memory serves, that's a 2.4 tachometer sitting there \u2013 with the 3.4, you don't want to approach the 2.4's 5500 rpm red-line. The 2.4 may have lacked torque, but it was a glorious high-revver (used to have a 1967 Mk 2 240). Usual cautions about rust in old Jaguars - for Mk 2s especially around where the panhard rod stabilizes the rear axle. If this conversion retained the original 2.4 rear axle, then the JT5 currently fitted to the car is more than very nice \u2013 its 5th gear is a necessity.
