Same color except it was two-tone so the inner side panels were beige. In '94 we bought THE biggest 4000 pound Lance cabover camper they built at the time. I asked the dealer, are you sure my truck is big enough? They said sure but all of the pictures in the brochure showed it on a dually. Well, I did eventually put bigger tires and air springs on it but that truck hauled that big ass camper all over the country and towed our boat at the same time. Of course instead of 12 mpg I was getting about 8. One time coming back from Death Valley we hit a horacious head wind crossing the Mohave and I had that thing floored all the way. Thought I was gonna max out my credit card before we made it home because we were getting about 2 mpg lol. \n\nEventually, when it had about 220k on it it began overheating and I decided to finally get that one ton dually I'd always wanted. Put the old F250 on Craigslist and some crazy guy from all the way across the country just had to have it. Anyways a friend and I went over, drained the old gas, sprayed a bunch of WD40 down the carb and into each cylinder, changed filters and oil, and inflated the tires. We came back the next day with new gas and jumper cables, and the old 400M fired right up.\n\nWe had a big BBQ and drank many toasts to the former owner, wherever he was. My son and I have nicknamed it \"GLOT\" (Good lookin old truck) because we hear someone say it at every single stop.\n\nHere's the story of how the cowboy f250 and I met. I was in Scottsdale this past January at the auctions. I had a couple cars running through the Gooding auction and I was trembling in my boots about the whole no reserve thing (plus it was my first live auction selling experience). I decided I would ride my motorcycle from So Cal out to Scottsdale for the event to calm my nerves and for the ride out and the first couple days of the week it was awesome...and then the weather turned. Big storms coming in for the weekend...just what I needed. Talk about adding stress to stress! \n\nOne evening mid week I was bored in the room and was trolling Craigslist (its amazing just how many old cars hit CL in that area during the week) and BAM, here is this truck, it had just been posted 10 minutes ago and it looked pretty good. I called and talked to the seller and got the story and agreed to come see them in the morning. I rode through town as the storm was brewing and arrived under dark and cloudy skies. It was everything it was claimed to be so I struck the deal with the caveat that the seller helped me get my BMW LT in the back. There was a toolbox across the bed that had to go, and with no ramps for loading I knew it would be a challenge. I rode over to the local auto parts store to buy some tie downs and searched the area for a loading dock or something. Eventually we settled on a tire shop with a lift and precariously perched the BMW on the lift and raised it up with the whole crew of the place trying to keep the massive 800+ pound bike from falling. As the rain was just starting to really hit, we had the bike lashed down and I was on my way. \n\nThe rest of the week I cruised around town in the Ford and after a successful sale at Gooding I went out for a fat steak and bought myself a cowboy hat and a good checkered flannel for the drive home. I not only hit some wild storms on the return to So Cal I even hit some snow over the pass above Palm Springs. The \"good looking old truck\" was my savior.\n\nI really have developed a bond with it. Its an awesome truck, and is significantly more macho and beefy than the modern F150 I have for trucking duties. I can feel my chest hair growing while behind the wheel...it really has a presence. A neighbor popped up with the camper shell which \"almost\" matches and my son and I camped in it at a blacksmith conference and a couple car shows. Ive used it to tow and its got the grunt to haul most anything. Its a beautiful beast.\n\nWhen I got home from Scottsdale I brought it down to my local smog guy and he popped the hood and laughed. The engine is all stock, but the majority of the smog equipment is gone. I had my brother register it in Arizona so I could have some time to chase the needed equipment. Now six months later I have not chased a single part. Im sure I could find the bits and dial that in...but I just haven't. Ive just enjoyed the beefy rumble of the pipes and driven into the sunset listening to the soundtrack from Urban Cowboy on cassette (which is included in the sale).\n\nNow that we are mid summer and Im battling the 100 degree heat I am back to my modern F150 ,suckling the A/C, wearing flip flops and a pastel polo shirt. Unless you have owned both at the same time, you might not be aware of just how much difference there really is between the 400M and the 460. However, it would be relatively easy to swap a 429/460 into this truck. Supposedly, the cab on these is one of the strongest (structurally) and makes a fantastic sound when opening and closing the doors.\n\nAs a teenager, I first was around the U-Haul stripper versions and then fell hard for my neighbor's highly optioned truck in two-tone green. \n\nAfterwards, I spent a good deal of time with the Supercab version of this truck, black with a red interior. It was flashy, smooth, powerful and worthy of admiration by all! The spare was carried on a front bumper mount, which only made the whole package that much cooler.\n\nI picked one up like this in Chino about 10 years ago, brown on brown. A bit weathered and complete with a giant cabover camper that somehow dwarfed the big truck. Ran the thirsty motor out of gas in Danville while driving home. \n\nI was able to drive it for a year, sold off the camper (foolishly) and then proceeded to loose the F250 through an estate/storage fight.\n\nStill have the last truck's tailgate, as well as a hood, grille and a replacement front seat from another. Can not let go of the pieces as I known I will have another some day.\n\nThe condition and stripes are fantastic on this truck and the photos only fan the flames of desire! \n\nObviously, I am smitten.
