My main issue is that around Seattle, unlike say, vintage VW mechanics, Brit car mechanics are a bit harder to come by. TR7s (perhaps by association the TR8 as well) got a bad reputation due to poor build quality almost entirely from the 75 and 76 models. By 1980 those issues were resolved and the 81 models were truly upgraded. Late TR7s and TR8s, when people finally get they are not the same vehicles as the 75 and 76 TR7, should greatly appreciate in price. As many have noted it is always best to buy the latest built one you can find. The cars built at the Solihull factory had significantly improved build quality versus the ones built at Speake or Canley. The damage by that point had already been done to both the TR7 and TR8's reputation for poor quality construction and just like that TR7 & TR8 production stopped. Most people think the TR6 was the best selling triumph however it was actually the TR7 that sold the most units in the history of the company. A modern (for the time) sports car that by the time it was being built at the brand new and Solihull factory was world class. You do not very often see an unmolested TR7 or TR8 anymore. This one appears to be completely original with the exception of what I could see was that the top had been replaced with Robbin's one at some point and the fuel cap is incorrect but other than that looks untouched. I have also never seen a platinum car with tan tartan only witth the blue so if it is original to the car that is very unique. The seller doesn't mention whether the A/C is functional or not. The Zenith Stromberg carbs are not terrible, but you have to expect a full rebuild including the butterfly shaft races or better to replace with a Weber 500. The power steering is prone to rather large leakage so a lot of folks, me included, go with a manual rack.\r\n\r\nI love the car and it is crazily fun drive. In pre-internet 1983 I looked for a low mileage example up and down the East Coast for over a year and found my car with 3,400 miles. It was never a daily driver and when I sold it in 2006 it had 31K miles. The only things I changed on my TR8 during my ownership was I installed a Crane electronic box when the Lucas unit went out on me; and I installed Bosch Pilot fog lights (BTW - as in this car, my TR8 was factory pre-wired, including switch, for fogs).\n\nThis car looks well preserved. It\u2019s different in that I\u2019ve never seen a Platinum car with a Tan plaid interior. Love that the rubber dash pads are still with the car as these often go missing. Of course the shift knob is aftermarket, but I think the top is original. Also these cars never came with an accelerator pad; and though you may often see cars with \u201cTriumph\u201d, \u201cTR8\u201d, or the Triumph wreath logo in the center of the steering hub, they actually came blank as shown on this car.\n\nNice car. He was always generous with it as he loaned it to me many times to impress my girlfriend (now wife) on dates. I remember it being a blast to drive, fairly quick for the time and handled well.
