I am an owner of the 4.5 GEN of this vehicle and I love it - on my second - a 2015 and now 2018 , Does not make the beautiful noises this version does but she sure does pull hard, That corrosion on the under body wouldn't scare me as I am live in the salt infested world of the northern Midwest and the area with the rust is thick steel obviously, Wash your car at a good touch-less car wash with the under body spray every chance you get in the winter and you can hold the cancer at bay. Have two 2006 SUVs that I have owned since new and have been driven on salt infested roads for 13 years and there is no detectable body rust and under body rust is present but minimal. The body and interior look nice. The underside reveals some issues, but nothing that should be too scary. The unibody structure still looks to be in excellent shape. The engine cradle has surface rust and the front strut rods look a little rusty. The exhaust system looks fine. From what we can see, the calipers look remarkably clean. \r\n\r\nIt's the suspension system that desperately needs to be rebuilt. But after 24 years, the suspension would have to be rebuilt anyway. Believe me, the struts on this car are shot. You can buy new strut/spring assemblies that will make replacement far less difficult while cleaning up the underside. The sway bars need new center link and end links. But they desperately need to be repainted. When that work is done, the underside will look much better.\r\n\r\nThis car is well worth that small restoration. A home mechanic can do it. The biggest challenge will be getting the lower strut bolts out of the lower control arms and trailing arms. They tend to freeze up on cars that have been in salt. Use new bolts and slather them with never seize during replacement.\r\n\r\nThese second generation Taurus cars were quite dependable and very pretty. With a little work, this one will be very nice. I actually have had that clutch in the trunk for quite some time. This is my third gen 2 SHO, one 94 and two 95's - all manuals. There was an old buddy of mine that was liquidating some of his SHO parts many years ago and I picked that clutch up on the cheap.\n\nI have no record of the clutch ever being changed, but the clutch is still strong. The release point is a little high, but I have not noticed any slipping or other issues related to the clutch. If in fact it has not been changed, obviously it is getting long in the tooth. Since I don't have a record of it, I can only labor under the assumption that it has not.\n\nI would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. Now I know a lot of people say that in their listings, but I absolutely mean it. I am happy to do a video of a cold start. When it has not been driven for a while, there is a one or two second squeak from a belt when you start it. Also when it has not been driven for a while I noticed one puff of smoke out of the tailpipe. The car runs extremely strong with noticeable torque steer. I do not have any record of a valve adjustment. There is absolutely no rod knock. It's a super solid SHO.\n\nThe picture on the bottom is the front crossmember that shows the most corrosion. There is no leaking at all from the gas tank. I actually feel like the pictures make it look worse than it is. I would consider what's underneath to be very normal, especially as this age SHO goes. \n\nI will work on those videos tomorrow or Saturday. If there are any other questions please feel free to let me know. I've driven it to Richmond and back a couple of times (240 mile round trip), and it was my daily driver for a short period.
