This has been a great car for me, common problems are (for those that don't know) electric coolant pump, HPFP, plastic charge pipes explode, and turbos last anywhere from 15k miles to 150+k miles. Coil packs can cause issues, but I am pretty sure they made the switch to the better coils on all N55s, and they are an easy fix. Honestly though, I have had to replace everything but the turbos, and still love the thing. Nothing is too crazy expensive. There are so many more options on the market now (much cheaper than when I got mine), I wouldn't be the one to ask. At the time I went with wavetrac (helical gear LSD) due to lower maintenance (compared to a clutch pack style), the supposed ability for it to continue working in zero traction applications (ie ice, I lived in the snow belt at the time), and it's made in 'merica! FYI for winter weather, DSC with snow tires worked perfectly without the need of any type of LSD. With the LSD, DSC seemed to intervene less but I never drove like crazy in the snow/ice anyway. The shop I got mine from had builds with the diff handling over 1000hp no problem and I was preparing for many mods, so that was peace of mind as well. I'm sure they're all good and the answer would come down to what the application is. A clutch pack diff has benefits as well and you probably wouldn't have to worry about replacing the packs unless you go for serious power?? I'm honestly not sure..\r\n\r\n@seller, sorry for the distraction. The point is if one is interested in this car, he/she will not regret it! If your goal is to keep it stock, it's a blast! And who knows, maybe it will have some type of collector value in the (distant) future. For 335/40i models the kit included a M cold air intake, ECU tune, a M performance engine cover, and M performance rocker panel decals. It looks like for the 1 series models that the PPK only includes the ECU tune as the intake and engine cover appear to be standard. I've replaced the water pump and charge pipe (metal aftermarket for the latter. Sometime after changing out the charge pipe, I noticed the same idle symptoms you describe. The Indy shop tech explained that N55's are sensitive to intake air leaks. We found bad welds on the new charge pipe, which the manufacturer replaced free of charge. It ran fine for a while, but now hunts some at idle.\r\n\r\nI bought my car new, European delivery. I initially wanted the 135i, but changed my mind after driving a 335i sedan with manual. The longer wheelbase and roomier interior was better suited for a daily driver in my opinion. I just picked up a '12 135i m-sport, 40k mi., black/black w/ no screen or wood etc. for simplicity's sake. It is a simply superb car! Amazingly comfortable and livable around town and an orchestra of straight-six goodness opened up. \r\n\r\nI'd say this one was - extremely - well bought. I literally searched for months for mine (low-ish miles + records) and space gray is rare to find in good condition for under $20k, and I never came across one with the gray/terracotta combo like this does, not once! I am all too informed on the market for these right now (as we are after searches) and low mileage really bumps these cars near or over the $20k mark. Beautiful car. Congrats to the new owner! \r\n\r\nAlso, rough idle, as @apistoal1 mentioned there is a updated flash for the DME/ECU that helps a lot. Honestly the best \"fix\" I have found is flashing the PPK1 code (can do it yourself, look up info from e90 guys), which solves 95% of the stumbling. Then I flashed the Alpina DME code for the DCT, and that smoothed out the rest. If you're not comfortable doing the coding yourself, and you don't want to pay a dealer $500+ for the PPK flash, search around (1addicts, google, etc) for some of the tuning shops that can remotely code the car for you for relatively small $. @MTN, resetting adaptations is a temporary fix (few months) before the DCT relearns bad info. If you're not running a tune, do the PPK1 first thing. Nearly everyone with your issue (including me) says it resolves it. The Alpina flash is just further fine tuning the DCT parameters.
