Back in the mid 70s, I had a CB450 which I loved and drove all over Calif. But I had always yearned for an inline four. Fast forward to 2022 when my son bought a Kawasaki 250 project bike which we worked on together. Riding that bike re-awakened the motorcycle bug and I started looking at 70s CB500s to 750s on BaT and Craigslist. But concerns about reliability and parts availability for a 50 year old bike held me back. \r\n\r\nThen, I came across a YouTube video about the CB1100, a model I had never heard of. I loved the 70s retro styling and the modern aspects such as fuel injection and electronic engine management appealed to me. So, I saw this bike nearby on Craigslist and went to look at it. I was amazed at how beautiful it was and instantly fell in love. Unfortunately, I was not able to test drive it, so I started doing more research on the model and watching multiple YouTube reviews, all of which were stellar. So, based on that, I pulled the trigger and bought the bike. \r\n\r\nI took it slow at first, just riding around my neighborhood to get used to it. But, after a month or two, I started to realize that it might be too much bike for me. At only 155 lbs. and 75 years of age, I probably need something smaller and lighter than this one. At 540 lbs., it felt a bit overwhelming and I just never got comfortable on it. \r\n\r\nI hope this story doesn't discourage anyone from bidding. There's nothing inherently wrong with the bike. It's a beautiful machine, it runs great and the build quality is amazing. But if I don't enjoy riding it, it doesn't make sense to keep it. I find it's a true joy for me to ride around town or on the open roads. It's not demanding by any means and has plenty of torque right from idle. Good brakes and smooth handling. The weight fades away once you get moving.\r\nI also ride a '74 CB750 all stock and unrestored. It's easy to service and since Honda made so many of the 70's CBs ,parts are easy to locate to keep you on the road. The newer CB has better brakes and with fuel injection , there's no need for a warm up time before taking off.\r\nEach motor has its own distinctive exhaust note with the linear feel of acceleration. You're always in the power band, if you need more, just downshift.\r\nThe next owner will really enjoy this machine. These bikes are a true joy and you can almost disregard the stats on weight, hp, steel frame, etc\u2026once you ride it. \r\nPrior to purchasing I was riding a 74 550 Four and a BMW GS but considering something to replace the Honda which I tended to ride more than the GS. I instantly gravitated toward the Honda upon its release in 2013 as it had styling cues from Honda\u2019s glory days of the 60\u2019s-80\u2019s and was essentially a modern interpretation of my 550 with more cc\u2019s. \r\nCome 2014, they changed these CB\u2019s and I did not like the aesthetic differences, particularly related to less visible chrome and alloy.
