I helped out with some of the maintenance on the CBXs from time to time. In variably, one of his many bikes did not get ridden for extended periods of time. One of the CBXs had sticky valves. With 24 valves, the odds one of them would stick is quite good. So, to the new owner of this bike: be prepared to get at least one sticky valve when you first try to run this thing. I advise disconnecting the spark plugs and turning over the engine with the starter before you fire this beast up the first time. I do not know what the valve clearance is in a CBX, but I suspect those are expensive pistons to be banging them into a hung valve. Mine was a 1982 model and pearl white instead of grey. I rode it bunches and took some long trips. I can report that though beautiful, it handled poorly and the motor was torque free. One of my riding buddies back then rode an 850 Commando and would regularly demonstrate it's British superiority up to about 80 MPH. The CBX would go faster than that, but got kind of squirrely as it approached it's liftoff speed due to the poorly designed fairing and lowers. I think the handling can be compared to a Kawasaki Mach 3, long, lean and hard to turn. These versions of the bike had de-tuned motors as compared to the earlier versions that didn't have the \"sport touring\" equipment, but, I can't remember ever having to work on it. I still have the valve adjustment tool in the factory plastic if anyone needs it. As with looking back at most of my former bikes from today's vantage point one can nitpick technology easily, but, seeing a time capsule emerge like this makes me want it back to do all that again.
