This is where the now-legendary so-called \u201cdonuts\u201d live. Many of the conversions to eliminate those \u201cRotoflex\" Donuts use \"CV\" joints [constant velocity] which became very common for front wheel drive applications as fwd became more common. There are also conversions available that use a driveshaft style U-Joint rather than the more expensive CV joint. Either type eliminates the \u201crubber\u201d of the original & and you can always get an argument about which is better. But from pic 81, it is likely safe to presume that both half shafts [right & left side of the rear] have been changed to this U-Joint type of half shaft. This does eliminate the concern many have about the condition of the rubber donut. The U-Joints and CV joints still require the usual maintenance of lubrication. I haven\u2019t ever come across this set up. U-joint side is on an adapter plate, axle could be installed either way. Probably best to put the lighter end of the axle at the wheel. \n\nYou never know what kind of inspired repair/replacement has been carried out on a Lotus. I wouldn\u2019t assume anything.
