Excellent brakes that I have yet to replace. A neighbor has one with 150K, and has only done brakes till now, and they drive theirs in the winter here in New England. Still some at the lot near me in the Spektrum custom colors and they look great (though blue is classic). The 2.0 in these is one of the best engines ever. I've put 100k+ miles on two Golf Rs and they are just great. The TSI version engine version in the newer Golf Rs is supposed to have less carbon build-up, but it can still be an issue so plan on that anywhere from 40k miles on depending on driving. Totally reliable tuning to 400hp+ and still daily driving. You'll have to look at state laws, but typically unless a dealership can \"prove\" the modification caused a problem, the issue has to be covered. I've always used APR for tunes, and one of the local VW dealers near me even does the modifications themselves. I've never had an issue with VW dealers in multiple states, and never once thought to wipe the ECU tune, or try to hide it when going to the dealer. I don't think we'll ever see a much \"hotter\" hatch from VW in the US as they like to keep them slower than the Audi S line.
