One long weekend a bunch of us took our toys to Florance Oregon for some fun. It was kind of a nasty day but we were undeterred. Everybody had their dirt bikes and dune buggies at a particular stretch of beach but try as I might, I just couldn\u2019t get there - hovercrafts don\u2019t go up hill very well and I just couldn\u2019t get enough mo to climb the dunes to get to the water. So I had a couple friends come with me to the boat ramp about 5 miles away. They drove my ElCamino back to the beach and I was going to fly the Scat out the harbor and up the beach to meet up with the gang. Did I mention the nasty weather? The seas were the biggest I\u2019d ever had it in and although it was a bit daunting at first, I was having a blast in no time at all. If you launched it just right from the top of a wave it would actually \u201cfly\u201d much further than you\u2019d expect. As I got out towards the jetty I saw the Gale Warning flags and a harbor patrol boat that wasn\u2019t going to let me out. So now I\u2019m stuck miles from my friends with no truck (and no cell phones). So of coarse I decided to just fly it back to them. It\u2019s a little tricky keeping a hovercraft in its lane on a two lane road but I was doing pretty good... until the Park Ranger and I met each other going opposite directions. The first thing he said to me was \u201cyou can\u2019t drive this thing on my roads\u201d! I pointed out that I was flying and wasn\u2019t \u201con\u201d his road until he had me shut it down. Didn\u2019t help. He was still busy writing me tickets when my friends finally came back with the ElCamino. With a pocket full of fresh ink on paper, we loaded it up and got back to where the action was. This time I flew it as far up the dunes as it would go and shut it off. A bunch of us picked it up and carried it to the top so I could fly down the other side to the beach. Oh what fun. I could actually keep up with a friend on his Elsinore 500 with the added thrill of of being able to do circles while going 75mph (ish) in a straight line (required some dancing around to keep it in balance).\r\nThe key to the rough water ability of the Scat was a simi-vee built into the hull to allow it to slice thru waves rather than crashing into them.
