As I recall, either carb I think would clear the hood, altho maybe an air filter would have to be modified. The Solex carbs are very simple, and the Weber about the same. There is a crank handle but not a jack. I had the car in storage in SF which when it was driven was only for short hops in city traffic. I never went too far as it is unregistered with no rear lighting. I lost my storage space and now have the car in Berkeley where driving is still block to block city streets so I've never really had the opportunity to give it a good run but there have been no indications to it being un-roadworthy. However I would get the lights working, check the tune and register it properly to go any further with it. It starts and runs well but it never hurts to check the tune and see where everything is. The carburetor is a 1 3/4\" Zenith Stromberg, and yes it does look like an SU. The Zenith Stromberg is basically the emissions evolution of the SU. They are similar in looks and function and why this carb was chosen for this application I cannot guess but it seems to fit okay, the linkages are okay and the mixtures it makes seem about correct for start-ability and drivability. The lead was there to coat the integral iron valve seats in iron heads to reduce seat wear. The DS19 engines had hardened steel valve seats in their alum. heads so didn't need lead in the gas. But just as with all engines running without filters in those days, the lead sludge settled out in the oil galleries drilled into the crankshafts. \r\nIf the engine oil wasn't changed religiously at fairly low mileage intervals, the crank sludge traps would clog with gunk and starve the bearings. According to the owner, a lot of the other car owners were pretty impressed with how the ID stuck with them on the twisties and handled everything so smoothly. This Traction should make the same sort of impression.
