It's great fun, but can only enjoy so many times a season. I bought a 95,000 mile 2005 Elise about two months ago. It is well maintained and has held up really well. Very simply put, this is a two seat, street legal formula car or sports racer. The suspension is very firm and the steering feel is just like my Crossle or a Lotus Elan. The tactile feel you get from the steering and from the seat are perfect. \r\n\r\nThe car is so quick and light on the \"B\" roads it's absolute joy to drive. The grip in the corners is enormous, braking is like driving into a catcher's mitt because the car is so light. Like a Seven, Europa or an Elan, this car puts you as one with the road. It is far greater than the sum of its parts.\r\n\r\nThe engine is perfectly tractable and if you want to summon the power, just let the revs build above 6K and the second cam comes on with a rush to 8K. With the top off the noise is the engine intake, mild exhaust and wind. \r\n\r\nThere is a downside to owning and driving a Lotus. It takes a technique to climb in and out. You find yourself wandering out to the garage for no reason and taking it out. They spoil you for driving other sports or performance cars. Everything else feels like you are driving a Panzer tank or the living room couch.\r\n\r\nDriving this car is like inviting a beautiful girl out dancing. I have an '05 CTS-V and a friend an '05? Lotus like this. If you look at the 1/4-mile drag times for them both they're pretty identical, CTS-V: 13.1 @ 109.8 and Lotus: 13.5 @ 102.9. We were off-highway and were able to put them side by side and test this. Turned out like you would expect. The Lotus got the jump and the V caught it and passed it, with the Lotus ending at the rear wheel of the V.
