It was located to the left of the speedo. Had an on/off switch and maybe a third choice switch???\n Flip the switch and roll the dial to the speed you wanted to go. The oldest blew up the original 327. Dad didn't have the means for a rebuild so a junkyard 350 went in its place. The other brother hit black ice and sent it into a guardrail. Dad said enough was enough and took the car back and parked it in the driveway. Eventually, he started bartering and trading for work done on the car - interior, frame work, paint job. Then in '93 he ponied up and ordered a 383 crate motor from RHS. He let me take it to my senior prom afterwords and threatened my life if I got on it too hard as the engine was not broken in yet. I was a good boy. I'd seen the veins in my dad's neck pop out in rage enough times to know better. He still has it today (The 64. Haven't seen the veins in years.). He's had some previous shoddy body work redone, rust repair, and over all clean up by a now-friend who restores cars. It also now has a 5spd in it with correct 4spd SS console. Based on the appearances this is a 250 or 300 version. A friend in high school drove the exact twin to this car and his was a 300 horsepower version that ran pretty well for a heavier car. I believe you can tell the which one this is by looking at the front of the heads, The 300 version will have the \"double hump\" fueler heads that sport 1.94\" intake valves while the 250 hp version will have the \"single point\" stamps on the heads and have smaller valves. Once again if memory serves me correctly the lower horsepower motor will have a little less \"cam\" and probably lower than 10.25:1 compression ratio that the 300 has. Maybe the seller knows or a close up shot of the head stamp will clarify. This is BaT of course, where we want all the trivial facts. With the 327/four speed running gear, the SS package and factory air this could hardly get any better. I know of three cars over time that had the 365 HP 327 without much doubt, in my mind anyway. A '64 dark aqua green Impala SS that ran through a Mecum auction about ten years ago that they claimed was a fully documented L76 327, the second one a '67 El Camino that was owned by my brother's business partner in his garage. Right after he purchased it they opened the hood and showed it to me and it still had the temp tag in the window. I can still hear them saying when he got done properly \"tuning\" it he would get 375 to 380 out of it. So I know it was unaltered at that very early stage. At one point for fun he pulled it out and installed a tunnel ram with two Holleys and put it in his SK boat and it was good for just over 100 MPH at a 4200 foot altitude. Not bad for a nearly stock engine. The third one was a very unlikely car, a ratty black '65 impala SS, that some friends of mine's father purchased brand new and passed it down one at a time to his three sons. They definitely weren't gearheads, just hell raisers. By 1972 the last kid drove it and it was in pretty bad shape but it still ran well. I wasn't fully aware of what was in it and he and I engaged in a trash talking seminar whereas he claimed he could outrun my 335 HP/Automatic '67 GTO and I thought no possible way. We proceeded to our favorite neighborhood \"quarter mile\" and had a go. I pulled him off the line because of the larger 400 torque and I thought it was all over but about 50 mph he went by me with ease. I was shocked. After the race we parked so I could investigate and under the hood was this greasy, grimey solid lifter 327 with the barely readable 365 HP stickers, lifters rattling and all. Short of an occasional oil change, spark plugs, valve adjustments etc it was bone stock. I think it had something like 3.31 gears but if it had some 3.73's or 4.11's he probably would have led me from start to finish. So like you say maybe if you had the right dealer you could get these kind of unpublished options. We had several Chevrolet dealers in our area and one that was heavy into the race scene where these cars were possibly sourced. The rats nest of tubing under the dash was a major problem. The control levers moved a pot metal valve like a train station to send the vacuum to the right \"track\". Sold the crap out of them back in the day. Pic 64 shows what looks like to me an attempt to rig something to get around an issue probably due to availability I don't see the vac valve where it should be. Hence the need for a mechanical shut off.
