It reminds me of the proverbial dog that is missing all his teeth, one eye, has a tattered ear and limps along on three remaining legs and answers to the name of \"Lucky\". \"The car was originally grey \"but\" has been repainted in black\". The interior was originally tan \"but\" has been redone in black for reasons unknown. \"The roof and trunk lid were repaired and refinished during current ownership after a tree limb fell on the car\". \"The rear bumper was repaired and refinished after being backed into while stationary\". \"The Ferrari head unit turns off after being powered on, and the passenger seat\u2019s automatic return feature is to function sporadically after being folded forward\". To engage reverse you have to either turn it off while in reverse or warm it up for ten minutes before backing out of your parking space in the morning. My apologies to the seller just had to have a little fun on a slow day at work but there is a silver lining to the potential new owner. The car shows well and many owners (like myself) would like the dark interior over the light and many car owners having once owned a black car don't want a second one. The other issues are very livable and I'm assuming the head unit could be replaced by a superior aftermarket unit at a reasonable cost. It was mentioned by someone that the reverse issue is normal and maybe that is in fact, true. If the seller isn't expecting an over the top price the new owner knows exactly what they're getting into and gets a good buy in the process. The V12 front engine/rear drive 456 didn't sell well when new and maybe I'm old school \"but\" I've always loved the model and the six speed makes ALL the difference to me for several reasons. A modern day Daytona with all the amenities. Someone mentioned the car will never appreciate in value and I couldn't disagree more. For years that was a true but in the last few years the cars have started to rise a bit in value and I think the 456 is going to do exactly what the Testarossa did. Go along steady and then almost overnight the value curve goes almost straight up, ending up at two or three times current prices in five years. Just like almost every Ferrari in history (See 308, 328,etc) does. The only thing that once stopped me from pulling the trigger on a 456 purchase is I can afford the car but not the upkeep. I'm not the average Ferrari owner in other words. The only spot I've ever found evidence it was originally black is deep under the trunk lid carpet - photo 82. The PO said he'd heard the car may have been in the Sultan of Brunei collection. Well, I don't know, maybe this could explain it - I'd heard he swapped interiors, repainted cars, etc., and he certainly had a lot of 456s in the day - but no amount of my Googling has proven this to be true. And were those cars registered in LA, I didn't think so. [By the way, a prize for anyone who can prove this was a Brunei car or otherwise discover who owned it before 2002.] \r\nAnd the limb incident, rear bumper, broken windshield... sigh. The base unit in the truck is prone to oxidation on the circuit boards, with removal and cleaning plus coating the circuit board in an appropriate protective coating should restore the radio, it worked on my 456. When folded back in place it's supposed to move itself back to a \"standard position,\" says the owner's manual. In this car, it does not return automatically most of the time - it just stays all the way forward. If you want it to go back, you have to use the fore-aft switch on the side of the seat. (Note, you can stop it from going all the way forward when folded by tapping the fore-aft switch when it starts to move, handy for when you're just putting a bag back there.)\r\n\r\nThe DM question asked about the operation of the driver's seat, and my first thought was it doesn't have that auto-move feature - I mean, you wouldn't want to mess with the driver's seating position, right? But I looked it up and indeed the owner's manual does not distinguish between the seats, implying both front seats should operate in the same way. In any event, on this car the driver's seat has never moved automatically when folded while I've owned it. If you want to move it forward for a (presumably very small) passenger, you'd have to use the fore-aft switch on the seat. I had the cam seals replaced in 2017 with the previous belt service, so it seems to be a common/chronic issue. \r\n\r\nSo to answer your question, nothing was done on the cam seals. There is no dripping, just some dampness near the bottom left front of the engine - see the plastic alternator pulley cover in photo 106.
