I hope everyone has been having a nice Memorial Day weekend. I\u2019ll be here all week to answer questions and add any additional content that I can including some videos and additional photos.\r\nI purchased the R63 back in 2018 as a long distance highway cruiser for travel throughout the Northeast while I was living in NYC. After 5 years, over 40,000 miles of trips and now other vehicles sharing duties the R63 is mostly retired to car shows or occasional weekend cruises; it has come time to pass it along to its next caretaker. The car has been garage kept the entirety of my ownership and fully serviced throughout by dealers or specialists with records from the prior owner included. \r\nThe M156 engine is a glorious masterpiece of naturally aspirated force and one that I hope to replace in another format but it does come with some known potential failure points, most notably the head bolts. The head bolts have not been replaced on this vehicle but I always utilized best practices by ensuring the engine was up to proper operating temperature before pushing the throttle. That being said this was still primarily a highway cruiser with most operating hours spent at highway speeds and in highway driving conditions. As a means of monitoring overall engine health, I had the oil tested by Blackstone Labs after each oil change and have no indications there are any issues with this motor.\r\nI would like to address the Carfax incidents noted in the report, there have been two incidents in my ownership both occurring while the car was parked and unattended. The first was a swipe at a gas station rest stop along I-95 which impacted the drivers front quarter panel. I had that panel painted shortly thereafter. The other incident was a grocery store parking lot where someone either backed into or pulled forward into the front bumper with only enough force to chip some paint off, no other damage to the bumper or any other panels. I chose to have the bumper, hood and fenders repainted to address the chipped paint and various rock chips from 130,000 miles of use. The only other incident I have had with the vehicle was a broken wheel from a large pot hole which I replaced, otherwise the R63 has not been involved in any other incidents under my ownership.\r\nPlease use the contact seller button for any specific requests or to schedule in person viewing in Connecticut. Sure. Is it like a 996 IMS? No. The issue affects all m156 before roughly 2011 when the headbolt design was revised. Unlike IMS, failure is preceeded by coolant leaks, low coolant warnings etc. Which usually allows it to be caught and rectified. In my extensive research, I estimate 2-3% of engines fail. Pretty low considering how many different cars these went in. I have owned m156 cars and they are magnificent, low end torque combined with high rpm power and of course the sound. After 130k they are rather unlikely to fail especially with oil reports showing no coolant but the fix is simple. Have the updated bolts put in, or have a good mechanic replace them one by one with studs. $2-3k. Small price for peace of mind for those that need it.\r\n\r\nNow go get some groceries. This is truly exceptionally rare. Only made for 2007, essentially as a special order that one had to know about to order, these never physically sat on lots. Have owned mine since October 2023. (I moved overseas for work, so it\u2019s in MBMarket Blakely Leonard\u2019s collection until I get back.) \r\n\r\nCouple items. This is an ultra rare color combo. 10 or less were made, even less still on the road. I will note that the rims one this one were never offered on the R63; these are ML63 rims. While they look good, they\u2019re technically incorrect. Roof rack also super rare accessory. The lore of headbolts and coolant seepage is lore; one documented case. Get out ahead of it, do the preventative maintenance required on these magnificent but very complex engines, and you should be fine.\r\n\r\nIn any event, the winner will likely never ever see another in their lifetimes. I am the 2nd owner and have owned mine for 3 years, purchased it at 190K miles. Prior to my ownership, $23K total was spent on the vehicle maintenance across 14 years. While not quite at the comfort level of S-class of the time period, the quality of build was there.\r\nI rebuilt the engine at 193K miles. Up until rebuild, it was on original headbolts and while they were worn, they were not at imminent risk of breaking. I rebuilt the engine because it was time, it developed a small oil leak and it turned out a piston ring had a crack. The air suspension had 2 airbags fail the last 2 years so I replaced them along with a new pump. Original transmission still going strong. In 2022, I spent $33K for the rebuild (all MB parts, some black series or SLS parts where I would have better longevity) to get this to a state where I can drive this for another near 200K miles, and the rebuild was done by an independent shop run by a AMG master mechanic who used to take care of Rick Hendrick\u2019s MB/AMG vehicles. Two other owners I know of have R63\u2019s with over 200K miles. The 275K mi one has had an engine replacement at 225K mi, the 230K mi one has original engine but with tranny work done.\r\nWhy did I buy this and spend the money on the rebuild? I needed a family hauler that had 3 rows where the 3rd row can actually seat adults. I\u2019ve tried other 3 row SUV\u2019s and minivans, but this remains my favorite. I like that it is comfortable, reliable, and not depreciating. I plan to keep it for a while, until kids are out of the house. I could have bought a new Escalade or similar luxury level 3 row vehicle and have spent more, but after 10 years that new vehicle would have depreciated significantly.
