Normally what you say is true. But not for my 355CH and not so for the classic and traditional Ferrari dual purpose cars like the 250SWB, which is what makes them so great and desirable because they truly are cars you can drive on the street and drive on the track. I\u2019ve used my 355CH, more than once, for shopping at Costco, drives to Malibu, etc. Let me address your concerns: (1) The rollcage for the F355CH is a multi-piece system with each section bolting to another so I have unbolted the front sections so that what is left inside my Ferrari essentially just a rollbar, as you would find in a 911GT3 Touring. This makes the car safer for street use as would any proper rollbar. (Of course, the full cage can be bolted in rather quickly for track day events should that be desired.) (2) With a Title from a Ferrari dealer a road tag for my Ferrari is not a problem at all. (3) My Challenge car is not deafening. In fact, the Ferrari Challenge muffler is actually quitter than the Capristo on my other 355. Ferrari had two Challenge mufflers. One is super loud the other is made for tracks with noise restrictions, which is what my car has, and as I said, quieter than a Capristo. (4) Insurance is not only easy, it\u2019s shockingly cheap. (5) As for the ride, i swapped out the rock-hard track springs for H&R springs that are stiffer than standard 355 springs but they are engineered for street use. The car drives perfectly fine on public roads now while handling and braking is in another league compared to a standard F355. As for the experience inside my car, with power windows, power mirrors, power locks and an upholstery and interior finish of my car puts 99% of factory street cars to shame with its beautiful alcantara headliner, luxurious and pristine leather dash and center console, carbon fiber seats with new Challenge seat covers imported directly from Italy, Ferrari floor mats, classic Ferrari gauges and an factory alcanata Ferrari steering wheel. I will, though, make one final attempt to disabuse folks of some misapprehensions promoted- perhaps due to an excess of enthusiasm (like comparing a Challenge car to a 250 SWB!!)- by another poster. \r\nIn an effort to avoid hijacking the seller's auction, this will be my final comment- if others want to promote their similar cars in someone else's listing, that's up to them. BTW, I base the following comments on 11-12 years of Challenge car ownership, having pounded out countless laps on various race tracks, and yes, driving them occasionally on the street (despite my better judgment):\r\n(1) Taking the roll cage in/out is not as easy as suggested (based on personal experience), and while removing most of it to increase road safety makes sense, doing so renders the car less track-worthy. Personally, I will not turn a single lap on any track without a full cage.\r\n(2) In most states, getting tags for even a Challenge car with a title will be tough. Any state with required safety inspections will not title or tag a car without headlights, 3-point inertia-reel seatbelts, etc., etc. (and the feds also have a thing or two to say about this). It can be done, but everything done to make the car more streetable makes it less track-worthy- and less original. FL, among other states, are very lax about this stuff, but getting a tag does not make the car legal to drive on the street, so there's some potential exposure.\r\n(3) My cars both run the full Challenge exhaust which, unlike the quieter Lime Rock version, is very loud. Most folks who track these cars prefer it.\r\n(4) I have found only one insurance company that will insure a race car for use on the street, and failure to disclose that the car is, for example, a Challenge version, could easily result in a denial of coverage in the event of a claim.\r\n(5) Sure, you can swap out the springs, add floor mats and sound insulation, even retrofit a/c, but again, every such mod makes the car less track-worthy and less original, with both being significant compromises that most Challenge car owners I know abhor.\r\nThe car on auction does not purport to be streetable, and will indeed make a great track-day toy for someone. It also seems, at a glance, to retain a lot of its original- and almost impossible to find- Challenge equipment. Someone should buy and track it. The 355 is one of the best examples i have seen. Tight, no leaks, last 6 speed manual and fun as anything. Regardless, what others say, this is a track car only and cannot be titled for road use as the first year models that were converted at the dealer were able to. Would be crazy to try anyway. If you want a street car, buy a street car. Regarding the carfax. BAT pulled it and i would not put much credit in it. This was a 3 owner car. My friend owned before me for 10 years. It shows only 2 owners. It has not been campaigned or crashed as someone pointed out was inevitable for a car such as this. it is dialed in, has extra rubber and numerous extras. Normally what you say is true.\u201d Let me preface what I am about to say with the following: If someone has a F355CH with a road title and they want information and advice on how to make it a very usable car on the street I would be happy to share with them everything I have learned. F355 owners are all brothers IMO :) Second, this F355CH looks like an incredible car. It is in better condition than many of the F355CH out there and a good litmus test is the very good condition of the leather dash and the very nice appearance of the engine compartment from above and below. This car looks like a very well maintained properly sorted F355CH. I have never driven a car that is more fun than a F355CH. Full stop. By comparison, I drove the new F8 Spider on Friday. Fast but frankly boring compared to the F355CH. \n\nIf you want a fun race car to drive that feels analogue yet precise and fast and affordable to maintain this F355CH is the way to go! It\u2019s hard to explain just how good a car like this one up for sale now feels when you drive it. They really are that good and whoever buys this 355CH is getting a real gem that will appreciate over the years and have them smiling ear to ear like a kid every time they drive this car. \n\n@enzo4re let me respond to some of your points and hopefully this will help other owners and potential owners of these cars. I am speaking from personal ownership experience that includes concurrent ownership of a road legal F355CH factory built race car and a regular F355 which makes side by side comparisons super easy. There is no misapprehension being promoted. Rather I am telling it like it is based on my own, direct real-world ownership experience. Comparing a road titled F355CH to other dual purpose Ferraris is not \u201cexcess enthusiasm.\u201d I remember watching Jeremy Clarkson review a 250 GTO on Top Gear many years ago, when the cars were a lot of money at just 2-3 million pounds but not yet on the pedestal upon which they currently stand, and Clarkson critiqued how the 250 GTO drove and was built (he commented on its poor welds, etc.). No interior sound deadening, no carpet, zero comfort features, etc. And lets not forget after the GTO competed you could have bought a 250 GTO for around $8,000. After all, it was no longer a viable race car nor was it a comfy street car. In my personal experience a good modern-day comparison to a fully sorted road-titled Ferrari F355CH is a drive in the F40. Yet unlike the F355CH the F40 has no power windows nor does it have power mirrors nor power door locks. I must be getting lazy in my old age, but rolling up a passenger window in the F40 or adjusting the passenger mirror is a bit of a PITA. The F40 does not have a luxurious leather dash and leather center console nor leather shelf around the rear windows. The F40 has no power steering which made parking a bit more difficult compared to the F355CH. The F40 also has no power brakes. I found the 355CH to be a better road car than the F40 (they actually share the same brake calipers and discs) with its bigger trunk and luxury power features (Power steering, power windows, power brakes, power door locks, power mirrors, etc.). The F355CH has a six speed and sounds better than the F40 and its power is more linear. Of course, the F40 is a masterpiece that costs over a million dollars and stops traffic with its stunning appearance. But driving experience wise there are indeed similarities. Personally, I will not turn a single lap on any track without a full cage.\u201d It is not difficult to do this. You simply unbolt the sections you want to remove. If you want to do a track day you bolt those front sections back in if you want. You have that choice. Yes it takes more than five minutes to do this but it does not take all that much time and it is simple and straight forward. Me personally I have the front sections out and so anytime I want I jump in the car and go\u2014post office, grocery store or a drive through the canyons, cars and coffee, etc., I can just go. Should I decide to go track the car I\u2019d just install the front portions. Simple.\nSecond, you state a car with a road title is hard to get tags? First, the majority of states have no such inspections, including California, Florida and some 30 states. The ones that do have pretty basic inspections. For instance, from what I\u2019ve read regarding seat belt inspections they require \u201cSeat belt accessibility: all seat belts must be accessible and working properly.\u201d In the case of a 355CH, the factory installed seats belts are \u201caccessible and working properly\u201d and as such it should pass. And I know lots of Porsche guys with Schroth harnesses in their GT3s and other Porsches. Moreover, the beauty of the F355CH is OEM parts are readily available to make the car pass such inspections with relative ease and they are relatively inexpensive thanks to so many sources selling Ferrari parts, new and used. Of course, this all depends on the F355 CH at issue because some were more heavily modified in later years than others after the 355 Challenge series concluded.\nYour third point is \u201cMy cars both run the full Challenge exhaust which, unlike the quieter Lime Rock version, is very loud. Most folks who track these cars prefer it.\u201d The \u201cLime Rock\u201d version you are referring to is, as I said before, actually quieter than the loudest version of the street Capristo muffler. The superloud muffler you use is not really a muffler at all (Ferrari part no. 167003) but more of straight pipes, whereas the muffler I was referring to (Ferrari part no. 164783) is a factory Challenge muffler and has noise levels comparable to a Tubi or mid-level Capristo. In other words, very livable. But again, you could go to the other extreme and install a quiet factory regular F355 muffler on the Challenge as it will bolt in and make it super quiet and I\u2019ve seen those on Ebay for as low as $350. Point is you can put whatever muffler you want on a F355CH but I recommend the factory 355CH muffler which herein is referred to as the Lime Rock muffler. Again, you have the beauty of readily available choices. (4) You state insurance companies will not ensure a \u201crace car\u201d for the street. Fact is if you have a road legal Title it is a road car. The State that issued the title, by the issuance of that Title, deemed it a road car and insurance companies respect the State\u2019s determination. My 355CH is fully insured so I\u2019d say the proof is in the pudding.\n(5) About your fifth point, I never said anything about adding sound deadening. That would be like adding sound deadening to an F40 which makes no sense. Second, you mention floor mats. That takes all of 60 seconds to remove, if not less. And again, I would note the F40 has floor mats. As for AC, I have never felt the need for it in the 355CH and again I\u2019d note the F40 does not have AC. My only point on AC is it would be a relatively easy install if someone so desired (again depending on how original the F355CH in question is). So if a person lives in Nevada, Arizona, etc., and wants to drive their car when it is 115 degrees out that might be something they\u2019d consider and at least they would have a real world option to install AC with all factory parts relatively easily. If I recall correctly, the Ferrari 458 Challenge Evoluzione came from Ferrari with AC installed and that\u2019s a full-on factory race car. As for the springs, you can do a track day with the upgraded H&R springs. It\u2019s not like the F1 Championship is on the line. Or if you want to go hardcore you can swap the race springs back in. Again, you\u2019ve got the choice and its nice to have options. The nice thing about the H&R springs is you could actually drive the Ferrari to the track, have a blast, and then drive it home. On F355CH race springs you\u2019d have to trailer the car to the track and trailer it home. I would definitely recommend the H&R springs for use on a streetable F355CH. You can purchase them at the Tire Rack for about $500, part number 29999. I hope this clarifies what I was originally referring to. \n\nThis 1998 F355 Challenge is one of the last F355CH produced and it has only 13k miles and appears to be a well sorted race car. Everything else was left in place including the race set up, full challenge pipe, roll cage, etc. Glenn Marquis from FoWash, who campaigned the car and won the last 348c Series with in 96 (348 Class) said it has the same set up as Sebring, making it stiff, but not as stiff as it could be. I've been on three or four epic drives of over 900 miles, and have put over 50,000 miles on this car. Indy, Sebring, Toronto, Watkins Glen, etc as I traveled to FCA National meets. My goal was to drive it there, spirited like an endurance, run 40 to 60 laps, and drive home.
