A real belch-fire beast. In a straight line I could hold my own and a little more with the three cylinder two cycle Kawasakis and they were smoking fast.\r\n\r\nBut the \"Bloody Vin\" Brakes were awful. Handling was also awful, in the late 1960s. I decided to sell it before it killed me! Compression release made starting ok, but it had a tendency to kick back and toss me over the bike and down on the other side. Having a Vin is a love-hate relationship! But is has a certain charm!\r\n\r\nThe manual is a hoot. \"Chain noise may be attributed to 'richness in the casting that would wear through in 500-1000 miles. However you might notice that this does have a very desirable aftermarket double-double leading shoe, not the original. The brakes are excellent and If you rode this bike without knowing better, you would think it was a disk. I want to comment on tire size. The Series B and C Rapide in touring trim came with 3.50-19 front wheel and 400-18 rear. Although that would have normally been with the touring mudguards. Rim size has very little to do with the diameter as you have to take the profile of the tire into consideration. Using Avon specifications the 300-20 front tire is approximately 26.18 inches in diameter, and the 350x19 front tire is approximately 26.85 inches in diameter (slightly larger). Coincidently the 350x19 rear tire is approximately 26.85 inches in diameter and the 400x18 is also approximately 26.65 (slightly smaller). The radius is therefore the almost the same, although you could use a narrower mudguard on the 20 inch. On two vincents I did complete restorations of, I changed both to the 19 front and 18 rear, and would do that every time. I ride vintage machines long distance, and in the US finding fresh 20 inch tires is difficult. If you were out riding long distance and had a tire problem, the 19/18 combo's tires are quick and easy to get as they are still common sizes. Your trip would be ruined if you had to wait weeks to get a 20. Also finding quality 20 inch tubes is nearly impossible?
