The Viper Owners Association is a great help in this regard as is JonB on that site that can find just about any part for these cars. I have read about the head gasket problem; that they leak. I have stayed with the original Mopar green 3-year coolant since new and have never had a problem. Perhaps others have used another type of coolant or did not stick to he three year change. I can't say. My car has been very reliable with only the A/C needing service because of dry seals from lack of use. Owner error on my part. My only suggestion for the new owner is to change the battery. It is located behind the rear wheel and only accessible by jacking the car, taking the rear wheel off and being somewhat of a contortionist. I have gone to the AGM type battery for longer life, and to have the dealer do it. You will love this car. Hope I can provide some insight on the ownership experience and common problems. \r\n\r\n1) Head gaskets are the monster in the closet for 92-95 Vipers. The OEM gaskets are of a composite design and often allow water to seep through them, and can lead to head surface corrosion or just outright fail. Many motors were rebuilt/replaced under warranty back in the 90s/2000s as a result of this (mine included, at 10k miles). This is something I would absolutely plan on budgeting for if I were purchasing a 1st gen - at least if I intended on driving it. \r\n\r\n2) Building on the head gasket issues, the cooling system is a known weak point on 1st gens - these cars run hot, all the time, no matter what the environment. Rear crossover coolant gaskets and thermostat gaskets are common failure points but the gaskets are inexpensive and of medium complexity to replace. Aftermarket radiators, fan assemblies, and fan controllers are common modifications to keep the heat in check. \r\n\r\n3) The 18 year old rubber has to go, ASAP. When I bought mine, it had 15 year old Michelin PS2s - I couldn't even do a burnout to send them off properly because the tires totally delaminated in the process. Tires can sometimes be difficult to source, particularly the rear - Michelin only makes a limited number of 335/35/R17 tires every year and when there's no stock, you could be waiting months. This was the situation I had last year - I gave up and bought 2nd gen 18\" wheels for which tires are much more easily sourced (and personally I love the design of the polished 5-spokes). However, they're currently in-stock at Tire Rack and this shouldn't be an issue for now. Modern rubber completely transformed how my car drove - although I think it definitely tames some of the vehicle's bite, but I think that's a good thing. \r\n\r\n4) One other minor common weak point, and it's a strange one - the power steering pulley bracket is made of a cheap pot metal, and under duress has been known to crack (say, very hard driving or track use). There is an aftermarket billet aluminum bracket available to alleviate this concern. \r\n\r\nOutside of the cooling system, these cars are pretty stout, and more importantly, fun to drive. Every trip is an experience - partially because of the cars rawness, partially because of the fact that everyone is whipping out their phone as you drive by to capture proof of a Viper being out in the wild. To the new owner, do yourself a favor - ditch the factory exhaust and get a set of Bellanger hi-flow cats and mufflers, leave the top off as often as possible, consider upgrading to a short-throw shifter, and most importantly, please drive it! You can thank me later. To me, it looks like a nearly totally stock, well-maintained example with two important options being included - the hard top (not cheap) and air conditioning (yes this was a paid option in 1994). Don't fret over the minor wear on the dash - the main dashboard has a somewhat fragile, almost \"fuzzy\" finish that shows scratches easily. The driver side outer bolster is a common wear point yet these seats look pristine. Basically every 1st gen Viper has K&N air filters because nobody makes paper filters for these cars. \r\n\r\nDon't sweat the minor details on these cars - you will never find such a thing a a \"perfect\" 1st gen Viper because they didn't even come that way from the factory. Expect light scratches on the lower front bumper because these cars sit low (none visible from what I can tell and if so that's amazing attention to care while driving). Don't think that every body panel will line up perfectly. The hoods in 1993-1995 models are known to develop minor paint cracks because of factory-applied body filler to address mold imperfections. I track mine so you might not need to go as far as I did. Tires are hard to get on short notice but if you plan ahead it's not too bad.
