I drove a '72 TR- for just over 30 years; probably had my hands on every part of the thing at one point or another. Rust issues with the frame will be concentrated in the rear section, particularly the wing extensions where the rear trailing arms attach to the frame. In picture #65 you can see the aluminum (pronounced \"al-you-MIN-ee-um\"...) arm just inside the wheel. The wing sticks out from where the main frame pinches in. It's just hanging there, holding up the lever and one of the body mounts.\n\nTriumph used a box frame concept, which made it light, but the gauge of the metal means it is susceptible to serious weakening if the rust gets too much of a hold on it. The wings and several other sections are ventilated with 1\" holes, which should keep the interior of the box relatively dry, with the added benefit of picking up dirt and sand and salt that will pack into the nooks and crannies and hold water. I cut out and re-built my rusted wing extensions with heavier gauge steel and they worked like champs; I no longer had to worry about a wheel flying off on a hard corner.\n\nOne more frame bit- the lever arms are aligned by shims. When I removed the arms I placed each shim stack in its own plastic bag for re-assembly. My welder assured me he knew exactly what to do with them. He did, mostly, but he got the left-right thing confused between the actual left and right sides. The result was a TR-6 jacked up like a 1960s El Camino. Not a nice look, nor did it drive like it should. Got some great technical advice from The Roadster Factory up in PA, confirming that I needed to swap the stacks to get the geometry right. It worked, and I was a happy camper after that.\n\nThis car has the best exhaust note, ever. I'm driving a Boxster now, and it sounds good, but the TR-6 note is kind of a cross between a Ferrari and a Harley. Slide the seat all the way back, then put a screwdriver in the gap in the rear rails and knock the rollers further forward, allowing more travel rearward - you can do this a few times - knock, slide, knock, slide - can get you another couple of inches. I took off the seat rail locking mechanism and tilt angle lever on the door side as they were hitting the B-post, removing them let me slide further. I also have a 14\" dished steering wheel - it comes out to your belly a bit more and gives more knee room. I Found you don't want to seat bottom so far back as to make a vertical back rest, as then your shoulders are too close and head is too high. So there is a sweet spot where you can still reclinea little, with the seat back hitting the wheel arch, and that gets your upper body back and head a little lower. I also have size 12.5 feet, and you know what they say about big guys with big feet?? they drive TR6s with no shoes on. Working on the car as a big guy aint easy... but thats a different story - working on dashboard wiring is akin to doing upside down Yoga in a laundry machine, in the dark, with your elbows glued to your ears. But with all that said - I love my TR6, its the most most fun per dollar you can buy out there.
