To clarify, these late ones do not have power steering, and they did not come stock with AC, which was an option. The other significant advantages not mentioned include changing the gears from 4:88 to 3:70's, which makes a real-world difference above 50 mph, and moving the gas tank from under the passenger seat to between the frame rails behind and under. The passenger no longer sits directly on the gas tank! For prospective buyers and everybody reading, it's just important to know. I bought it for him (via dad funds) in San Diego for $4500 in 1991 or 1992. My father drove it back to NorCal from SD, 60 mph, 10-12 mpg and 11 hrs. I think he spent $500 on gas alone. Awesome vehicle and we had fun in it for years. He ended up selling it to a friend, who then sold it a few years later to a guy who sent it to New Zealand. Guess we\u2019re not getting that one back. It's my honest assessment is that this is a very, very nice example of a late-model US spec FJ40. These are very hard to come by in this unmodified condition and with the nice options of the later 40's. \r\n\r\nThere are only a few very minor things which don't look original. I'm not convinced the exhaust is routed correctly, but I've not seen a completely original exhaust on a late model 40 so I can't be 100% sure on that. I believe the A/C may be a (nice) aftermarket addition. A few hose clamps in the engine bay are incorrect. It looks like the truck had an exterior respray in it's original color based on the difference in patina between the body and spare tire carrier. Looks like some one drilled some holes in the fiberglass top. The OME suspension is a great mod but the u-bolt ends need to be trimmed. \r\n\r\nOther than that this truck is an absolute beauty. It's amazing to see a fully intact engine compartment with all the emissions equipment. So nice to not see a V8 hack job. This truck has factory power steering which is correct for this year. The wheels are factory correct. The entire interior is factory correct.\r\n\r\nI will clear up some mis-information stated by the seller and another poster. 79+ US spec FJ40's came with power steering from the factory which this truck has. The fuel 21.7 gallon fuel tank is located under the bed between the frame rails, not under the passenger seat. This truck should have 3.70 gears, previous FJ40's had 4.11's.\r\n\r\nThe only additional pics I'd like to see would be close-ups of the VIN plates.
