I bought it from a man in Connecticut in 2017, who owned a VW dealership, and had a warehouse full of old beetles, late 1950s type 2s (sweet!), and other rarities. It never saw any adverse weather in Connecticut, since it was rarely taken out of the warehouse.\r\nThe electrics are sound, and everything works right (except the clock). There is a disconnect at the battery, which I've used when the car was going to be stored for more than a few weeks. Otherwise, it starts right up. \r\nThe extent of the bodywork is not certain, but it looks like there is evidence of some rust repair around the fender areas. It was definitely not extensive, over existing paint, and received a complete new paint job. I had a significant collection of vw's, including a 58 rare vw bus ambulance with original emergency equip, including stretcher and EKG machine, and a 59 VW bus fire truck that had the inside rack with all the hoses and ends, AND a water pump powered by a 36hp vw engine and a cradle that 4 men would carry to a lake and start pumping, and yes, one of 16 vw powered boats. all the vw nuts went crazy, none would pay anything. that was in about 2000, and all brought $10-$15k. there was one of these as well. these are pretty rare, but its the same story. and its a great example, but arguably not the prettiest vw ever, and no one has a memory of taking his girl to the drive in in this, like a bug or bus. so.... given a choice, and limited garage space, and at times money, many just want a bug cv or something similar. its all about priorities. we never see one fully restored because, well, no one would spend the money on this model. its why no one spends big money restoring a Fiat 124, or even many older Ferrari's or Lambos or Maseratis. Those models just don't inspire us. but don't count it out, it only takes 2 at the end.
