That said, in the 1990s, there were a few incidents: (a) someone backed into the car in a parking lot, (b) someone nicked the bumper when it was parked in the garage, (c) in 5-10 mph stop-and-go traffic, the driver of the BMW behind me was staring at my NSX and just missed stopping in time, and (d) at a stop sign, I hit the car in front of me at about 5 mph (my fault entirely). In all these cases, the damage was cosmetic but we fixed it. Nothing more for the next 20 years until recently when we noticed some damage to the rear bumper (pictured) which we fixed in February 2020. I suspect someone pushed into it while backing out of a parking spot. Here are a few things to consider before you sell the wife and kids.\r\n\r\n1. The first edition 91s have manual (Armstrong) steering - which is heavy at low speed and truck-like to park. Acura wisely shifted to standard electronic PS a few years later.\r\n\r\n2. Service costs at an Acura dealer for a NSX are not the same as Honda dealer for an Accord. My experience was substantially higher. For example, I paid around $1,000 to have a power window regulator replaced. Similar to my Porsche experience.\r\n\r\n3. These cars are set up to devour their soft tires - particularly the rears. At not much more than 5,000 miles. At around $200 each, this starts to add up.\r\n\r\n4. The engine has relatively low torque and makes real power when the VTEC kicks in at around 4,000 rpm (as I am sure you know based on your name). So for most driving, especially around town, this is not a particularly fast car. Similar to the S2000 experience. A late model Mustang GT will have no trouble walking away from this 275 HP NSX.\r\n\r\nHaving said all that, this is a very nice example. For those not completely familiar with this issue, here is the full story. When the NSX was developed, Yolohama was contracted to develop the tires for this new NSX. Honda set out to have the best handling sports car in the world. They tested hundreds of different tire designs and compounds. It's my understanding that each corner originally had a different design/compound. Additionally the NSX left the factory with the rear suspension setup for maximum grip. The early owners were experiencing excessive rear tire wear and after a class action suit against Honda, they recalled all the early cars and re-aligned the rear suspension and gave owners 1 - 2 or 3 sets of replacement tires. There after all NSX's produced were aligned from the factory to \"less gripier\" specs. Still, it is nicely balanced and remains my dream car.\r\n\r\n\r\nAt 5,046 miles (8,121 km),the two rear tires were replaced with Yokohamas.\r\n\r\nAt 5,514 miles (8,874 km), the ABS modulator assembly was replaced as the ALB light was randomly coming on.\r\n\r\nAt 11,216 miles (18,051 km), the two rear tires were again replaced with Yokohamas.\r\n\r\nAt 11,967 miles (19,259 km), the window regulator assembly for the passenger window was replaced.\r\n\r\nAt 17,888 miles (28,788 km), all four tires were replaced with whatever Acura was recommending at the time. They weren't the Yokohamas.\r\n\r\nAt 21,993 miles (35,395 km), the cam end plugs and valve cover gaskets were replaced.\r\n\r\nAt 24,168 miles (38,895 km), the antenna mechanism was replaced as it was not functional. \r\n The 3 Bose amplified speakers were also replaced as we noticed some buzzing.\r\n\r\nAt 24,862 miles (40,012 km), the 30K maintenance was performed.\r\n\r\nAt 25,587 miles (41,179 km), the A/C compressor was replaced.
