My car is worse and I'll be welding in a new half-pan this summer.\r\n\r\nRegarding an inop blower, I guess @doelana is referring to the front, ventilation blower. Another common problem and kind of a bugger to replaced due to the fuel tank and wiper mechanism being in the way. If there is heat, then the blower in the engine compartment works and is pulling off the heat exchangers. The original sound deadening material was painted body also. They are rusted on the top/inside but not through or underneath. The right hand seat mounts on both sides rusted and were bolted down. I can confirm what others have said: All external clues strongly suggest this is a 1.8 based on the visible parts, stickers, etc. The FI is clearly Bosch L-Jetronic, which was only used on the 1.8. The 1.7 (NLA after '73) and 2.0 engines both used the D-jetronic system. \r\n\r\nThe L-Jet is arguably the better system as it's more modern and based on air flow instead of manifold pressure. The Porsche part numbers can be very hard to find, but if you get creative a lot of the Bosch part numbers cross list with other cars like Volvos of this era. Overall, it's a great system imho but gets a bad rap for some reason. One thing that can cure most L-Jet gremlins is a new engine wiring harness. Those can be had pretty regularly from companies like Auto Sparks in the UK and dedicated individuals in the 914 community like Jeff Bowlsby. The AFM can also get jumpy as the contacts for the flap age, but there are rebuilt units available. Injectors are very robust and can be serviced by companies like RC. Great to see that the original FI is still on this car. It is a genuinely superior system to carbs and worth the extra work to keep going for power, efficency, and resale value. Backdating the exhaust to the 1.7 or 2.0 system (or Tangerine Racing headers!?) would wake this car up quite a bit. \r\n\r\nI like this car a lot, and the ATS wheels look great on her. So I put her up on the lift and took these shots. The one on the left, with the most rust through, is under the battery; the H hole. The second shot is the opposite side where there is a little rust through under the heater fan. Both come from water leaking through the engine cover and the H hole from additional battery leakage over the years, 46 years... It's hard to find ones that don't have some damage there.
