The indicator lights on the dash make a ticking sound but the arrows don't light up. The bulbs in the dash are incandescent and the indicator relay was changed to an LED compatible one. I suspect that if you changed the dash indicator bulbs to LED they would work. Anyway, it's a small price to pay for much brighter (read safer) brake and indicator lights. The AC repair is down to use. It blew cool enough last summer to avoid dehydration - but it's not really ice cold. but I rarely drive with the windows closed and most of the year I can live with that. He disconnected the speedometer/odometer, so we drove carefully and with the flow of traffic in the early days of police radar. Until a Caddy with a FuzzBuster on the dash passed us at great speed late in the night. We could see the detector flash on his dash warning of upcoming radar traps. After an hour or two at unknown speed, my roommate, in his slow southern drawl, asked me \u201chow fast do you reckon we\u2019re going?\u201d I looked out the window to get a sense of speed and said \u201cI dunno \u2026 70-80?\u201d He replied \u201cbest I can figure, looking at the tech, we\u2019re doing like 100 or so. I previously owned a 1976 XJ6C in Jaguar \u201cDark Blue\u201d over biscuit leather. It was a stunning California blue plate, zero rust, survivor. I took it to the next level and showed it at many Jaguar and British centric shows where it won multiple honors. It was not only the condition on that car, but it was so unique, like this 12C on auction, but many had never seen one or heard of one before, and that was even with British car folks! The 12C is ever rarer and more coveted that the 6C, though the 6C is a bit less difficult to maintain vs. the V12. The vinyl roof question is an interesting one. Every 6C and 12C came with one from the factory. Mine vinyl roof was stripped off the car from new and an electric Golde sunroof installed by the selling dealer\u2026..it was a dealer owned car for one of the owners. My understanding is that the vinyl being needed to cover up defects in the metal work on the roof is inaccurate. Back in the 70\u2019s vinyl roofs were standard on many cars of the era, and these coupes were no different. A styling cue really. The roof of my 6C was perfect with no defects in the metal at all. A real benefit to the auction car as noted is that it is a 1975 model, so smog exempt in California. I unfortunately, had a 1976 model, so it was off to the California smog station every two years for me. A real hassle with a 70\u2019s British car! These large coupes drive beautifully and smooth on the road, and can keep up well with modern day traffic. Parts availability is decent too and you definitely will not see another on the road and even at British car shows typically. This looks to be a beautiful and pretty much well sorted example in great colors. Just take care of some of the things needing to be done and have a good British mechanic to work on it ( not so easy anymore these days, and I used to live in the SF Bay Area). They are referring to photos 86,87 and 88 where the black paint is flaking from the chrome on the black painted sections of the wheels (Wheel wells here refers to the perforations on the wheels). I had them repainted in 2011 or so shortly after getting the car, Getting paint to stay on chrome is notoriously difficult. but if I had a stencil, it's an easy touch up. There are no recent compression checks n the engine for the simple reason that the engine was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago. When it was rebuilt new pistons were installed. It's unlikely to be anything but excellent. The oil pressure is also excellent, FYI. On the AC haven't seen anyone about it, so I don't know, but a new OEM AC Delco compressor was installed when the engine was rebuilt. The respray of the engine compartment was done in 2014. I have have attached some photos o the removal of the engine; the interior (which was stripped down to the metal) and the replacement of the the engine into a refurbished engine bay, The interior body work was done to a high standard and all finished in POR-15 and new sound deadening )see photos). .The removal of rust on the rear drivers wheel arch and under the front windshield was done in 2011 by a renowned local paint shop here in Cincinnati - there has been no issues with rust since then. The respray of the car in CT was before my ownership, but apart rom the two sports of rust, I can attest it was done to a high standard (look at the pictures!) and has clearly kept up well. Since the cowl and rear wheel arches are chronic areas of rust on Jaguar sedans of this era, I assume you mean these were repaired from rust damage? \r\n\r\nLike me, it appears you've made liberal use of POR15. I've always wondered if over an extended period of time it truly stops metal from rusting. In my Jaguars I wire-brushed all the rust areas I had access to and treated the metal with a mild acid to neutralize the remaining rust and leave a truly rust-free surface before applying POR15. I went to these lengths even though the POR15 can says it is best applied to rusted surfaces. \r\n\r\nBefore I bid I'd appreciate your thoughts on possible long-term rust issues here.\r\n\r\nAs to the A/c not working, my experience on both my 1971 XJ6 and 1979 XJ12 was despite vacuuming and recharging the system every summer, the A/c by American-car standards was pretty weak and depended heavily on the power of suggestion. A Jaguar dealer once reminded me that Jaguars are designed in England where summers are mild compared to most of America, and I have yet to see a 1970's XK where the A/c was truly adequate in hot weather. My 2010 XJR A/c blows ice-cold, so Jaguar eventually got the message.\r\n\r\nFinally, your description said the rear differential was replaced. I took it to a well respected shop here in Cincinnati and the proof of the quality of the work is the fact that 12 years later there is no rust in that area. When the interior was removed I was shocked at the single coat of red primer applied at the factory. As the photos show there was plenty of surface rust and a some in the passenger footwell that was removed and patch welded. The whole interior was then coated with POR 15. If this had not have been done I think there would have been serious concerns down the road. As far as I can tell from careful inspection in the trunk around the usual rust areas and underneath the car there is no rust that I can see. I am well aware of the risks for rust on this car and have been diligent about searching it out. To the best of my knowledge there is no rust. \nOn the differential you will be aware that the XJ12 came with a GM \u201cPositraction\u201d differential (the 6 did not). When the car was restored at Muncie Imports in 2013-15, they advised me to change out the differential for the same Positraction unit. They were not available new so we obtained one that was rebuilt ( by exchange). I\u2019m not sure but I think the outfit that was doing this was located in Washington State.
