You just don't see that anywhere. Everyone threw dual exhaust, lift kits, and huge rims on these trucks. To see one and drive one today the way the engineers drew it up in 1998 is so cool. If I had the free time to drive it during the summer I would never let it go, but I have to be realistic, I do a job that is filthy all summer long and would destroy a truck like this if I chose to use it. I did all the maintenance and took care of it in a way to keep it ready to use at anytime I chose to, but only put a few hundred miles on it every year. I bought a 1998 2WD, Chevy Silverado 3 door 1500 with the 5.0 V8 ( 305 ) Same color combo as this one 2 years old with 23K miles on it in 2000. Drove it every day. It required the usual, battery, brakes, filters, fluids etc changed. Other than that it was very reliable and very comfortable, after I changed the standard shocks out to Monroe Gasmatics. Sold mine with 175K miles on it. My wife wishes I had not done that. Our new 2020 GMC Crew cab is nice, but to high up for her to get into easily. The seats are hard as a rock. This will be a very nice truck for the next owner. Open UHAUL car transporter with a 2,850 Lb car on it. I never towed in O/D. only in D One:One. I averaged 10 MPG to 13.5 MPG depending on where and of course road and weather conditions. I did not have an extra oil cooler for either the engine or the trans which was the 4L60E deep pan 4 sp auto. My truck had the 3:42 Detroit Locker in the rear end. Never overheated, never had an issue. I changed the engine oil religiously between 3,000 and 4,000 miles. I changed the trans fluid and filter every 25K to 30K miles. I dumped the rear end oil every 30K to 35K miles along with all filters etc. Preventive maintenance is the key to happy towing or any use of this wonderful truck.
