For what it's worth, this is my uncle's car (my cousin is the seller) and I remember it sitting in his garage nearly my entire life. I recall it being a darker shade of metallic blue, flaking off of the original maroon color. The BaT description is necessarily cautious about the car's specification from the factory, but if it helps, I can share what my uncle told me about the car. When he bought it as a young man of 22, the car was equipped with a 283, fuel injection and a 4-speed. From what he knew at the time (1962), that was how it came from the factory. Since the fuel injection setup wasn't something that most mechanics could keep properly tuned back in the day, he decided to swap it for a 327 and a 3-speed when offered to him. My uncle and cousin don't know how to prove that (or if) it was a factory fuelie car, but perhaps experts can tell from the VIN and other details (including the included spare parts which I believe were removed from the car during the engine swap). I just want to (hopefully) help explain the engine history as I know it. But of course, the burden - or blessing - of proving its provenance is on the buyer. ;-) Best of luck to the winner of this auction. This is consistent with 283 HP FI heads. Ironically these heads were used on power pack passenger car but no other 1957 Corvettes. All the evidence point this having been a F I car. The engine wiring harness is also unique on F I Corvettes but this has probably been replaced with time. For most of my life the car sat in our garage but I made my father hold onto the car all of these years so that I would one day have a chance to drive it. Fast forward 30+ years and I can absolutely say that the car is a blast. \n\nWith regard to the engine, unfortunately I cannot attest to what engine came with the car but at some point it was a fuelie. I'm sorry to say that I don't have any proof that it was a fuelie at any time during its life. There are of course the infamous stories from my father's friends and family members who would tell me that they would hear the car coming because of the whistling sound the car used to make. What engine the car had is history. Today the car has a 327 and as I said earlier, it's beyond fun to drive.\n\nI do have some of the engine components that I am selling with the car. I bought the car out of a botched and incompetent restoration (thanks, Wes) and we then rebuilt quite a bit of the car whilst improving various things along the way- entirely new wiring loom with alternator, disc front brakes, SS brake lines and dual master cylinder, better lighting, new exhaust system, and an aluminum radiator. All of these changes made the car a better performer without changing the character of the car. Final item was a completely rebuilt T-10 from a great shop in Red Lion, PA, which just does manual transmissions- \"Four Speeds Inc\" or something like that...\r\n\r\nMy car looks original, but isn't. The 283 that came in it is long gone, and we think the entire front FRP clip was replaced by one from Eckler's or somebody, because it looks like original but is too good to be. But I drove C1 Vettes back in the day and as best as I can recall, mine feels like those cars did, way back when. \r\n\r\nI think that's the point of cars like this one, and mine. Capture the feel of the 1950s in a car which is reliable enough to drive whenever you want, and leave the trailer queens for the guys who never drive them, but just roll them off the rig for the next NCRS show. And while I appreciate what NCRS does, or most of it (they invented the entire matching-numbers thing which has now cursed the entire hobby), I don't want to own a car that's too nice to drive, whether it's a Mercedes, a GT40, or a VW Bug. There is a piece of the original FI unit in one of the parts boxes. It is a small cover plate that was used as a cover on the fuel meter. I believe this indicates the fuel unit was disassembled for some reason and not put back together.
