This 1977 240Z had a base of $7429. Quite a change from the debut of $3600 in 1970/71. Also, a 76 or 77 Corvette had a base prices of around $7700. Probably the 1976. I'm pretty sure I recall the 280Z advertised as \"America's best selling sports car\" in 1977. A credit to the Z-car's appeal, as the price gap with the Corvette had narrowed to insignificance compared to 1970/71, when the Z-car was a screaming steal of a deal. (yes, the Z-car was better equipped--just the standard stereo and defogger reflected about $350, and the Corvette required power steering and brakes to reach it's potential, which I'm certain were still...optional in 1976)\r\n\r\nNote also that the FIVE-speed was still optional! Note that there have been a series of silver 280z's in recent weeks and this has to be one of the better ones with the service records, original window sticker etc. I noticed in some of the service records the mileage shows in excess of 100k; is this 153k miles? The rust is fairly minor and thankfully this example has managed to escape the dealer add on moldings drilled into the bodywork and those pesky sunroofs which interrupt the clean lines of the Z.\n\nI would note that the fuel injector sub harnesses should be routed under the valve cover breather hose aka a flame arrestor in Nissan's universe. The wiring leading to the water temp sensor and thermo time switch should be routed under the fuel rail and all of that is very minor and does not affect the driveability. The original dash is a real treat and the interior looks remarkably well preserved. I would also swap the battery as the cables should be sitting further away from the firewall (iirc it should be a group 24F battery) closer to the battery fusible links and fusible links writ large.\n\nAs they say they are not making anymore of these so get one while you can.\n\nAs others have noted the 5 speed was a $165 option in 1977 and that is the same price my father paid for the 5 speed option on his 1978 280z purchased new in Feb. 1978. I have shared a link to a commercial for the '78 280z as it notes that a 2 yr. old 280z is worth more than a new one. This is only due to the fact that back then interest rates and inflation were so high thanks to an ailing economy. If you should ever have to replace or repair your factory heater core and/or heater valve it is a different part number than the factory A/C cars. Last time I checked the factory solenoids are NLA from Nissan as are the A/C heater valves. \r\n\r\nYou may still be able to purchase the non-A/C heater valve and/or heater core. Since your car and a couple of mine escaped the factory without A/C your car never had those solenoids so that would not be affecting your heat problem.\r\n\r\nNormally with an A/C equipped car there are vacuum lines that pass through the firewall of the engine bay and your non A/C car and mine do not have that as ours are blocked off with a blanking plate made out of rubber (see photo link to my '78 before I purchased it):\r\n\r\nhttps://www.motorcarclassics.com/1978-datsun-280z-c-92.htm\r\n\r\nSince your heater blows cold I would ask if you can tell if the air is re-directed when you move the selector from vent to heat? You should hear a slight sound from behind the dashboard and that would be the flaps opening/closing to redirect the air. First thing I would do is check under the passenger side of the dashboard. There is a trim panel held on by a couple of screws. Behind that panel you can see the blower motor. I am going by memory here at work but you may see a vacuum line running from the blower motor back to the center of the dashboard. I always like to check for vacuum leaks first. It may be a good idea to replace those as they are quite old by now and I would assume they are original given the condition of your car. in the factory service manual there is a handy little diagram which maps out the vacuum hoses and the hoses themselves have little tags (S1, S2, etc.) which make it easy to trace. I believe someone has uploaded a copy of the factory service manual to xenonzcar (I just checked and they have the 280zx manuals but not the S30 Z cars). In any event if you can't find one I have several I have collected/hoarded over the years. Clymer's used to produce a pretty decent manual as well as Haynes.\r\n\r\nhttps://www.motorcarclassics.com/1978-datsun-280z-c-92.htm\r\n\r\nI would also ask if the temperature selector is stiff as you move it from cold to hot (see above picture link). If the lever is stiff your cable(s) may need some lubrication. I would also take a look at the condition of the engine coolant. Does it look fresh or was it changed recently. I skimmed the ad copy and the selling dealer performed an oil change and replaced the tires. It could be as simple as a partially clogged heater core if all of the above checks out. I also linked to a picture of the passenger side of your engine block and at the juncture where the short heater hose connect to the engine block that small fitting is a valve and it may be in need of replacement or may be clogged. One of the first things I like to replace when I acquire a 280z is the upper/lower radiator hoses and clamps and those heater hoses on the passenger side of the engine block and associated clamps. The battery tray is in very good condition. The rear valance panel and wheel wells look to be in good shape. Some little detail differences to explore if you happen to have a '77 and a '78 side by side. Internally regulated alternator was new for '78. The 5 speed emblems on the hatch are different from '77 to '78. Lots of the online auction sites want the cars at lower reserve so they sell. I get it, they don't get paid unless it sells. I also agree, consignment ads do leave a lot to be desired. And if that is the case, do they willingly part with more money for the assurance that a dealer is a safer bet? I recall one occasion where I had decided to sell one of my 280z's and I sat down and created a log book from invoice #1 up through my ownership and tallied the numbers along the way. From 1978 to 2001 the original owner of that Z had spent a little more than $28k including purchase price. During my time with the car I had spent an additional $4k and sold it for $2,500. It was gaining rust faster than I could abate it and the new floors and floor supports that had been welded in kept the car safe to operate for the next owner.\r\n\r\nRegarding consignment sales, I think that is most likely the case. My own experience with the BaT '78 280z was purchased through this site and it found its way to a dealer on consignment and at some point the dealer acquired it from the owner and I ended up purchasing from the dealer. If not for timing I would have preferred to purchase it from the 2nd time it was auctioned here.\r\n\r\nI wonder how long it will take the dealer to sell the car.
