My personal best is nearly 500 miles in one day. Car averages 14-15mpg on 89 unleaded and Marvel's Mystery Oil. Clock has been quartz converted. I've never seen another Pontiac branded AC unit like this. This was a $555 option its day...a huge price given a stock Star Chief cost $2800. The AC has one setting...VERY cold, with low and high fan. The original radio's guts have been replaced with modern digital guts. You'll never get a speeding ticket in this car is you believe the speedometer...it runs 10% high...so 70 indicated is 63 actual. Confirmed time and time again over the years with those road side radar machines. Here are pictures of more of the undercarriage, and some of the paint flaws. A \"10 foot\" looker as I've heard the phrase. A neat idea is that rechargeable blue tooth speaker I've hanging on the AC. I had this first car for eight days...yes eight days. This 55 was not nearly as well equipped...no options, no radio, no PS or PB, 2 barrel carburetor, and nice, but incorrect paint. But here is direct evidence that a 55 can take a hit. The first thing I did beyond necessary work was to install seat belts. Seat belts were an option in 1955, and not mandatory until January 1, 1966. A few days after I got it back, I was stopped and signaling for a left turn when I was rear ended by a Grand Cherokee doing 35mph. He was on the phone. The car was shoved across the road. Seat belt held me, but my face hit my wrist on the steering wheel, and fortunately not the wheel itself. I was knocked out and seriously injured. I woke up with the sergeant in the picture rolling my body looking for the keys...the car was still running but the keys had shot out of the dash from the impact and were underneath me. Unfortunately, while big and heavy, these cars were not designed to take a hit. The impact traveled through the car...the rear frame was crushed in 14 inches, quarter panels bulged out six inches per side, X member split, exhaust split, but the transmission was OK.
