My friend owns a large used car dealership here in NJ that specializes in late model cars, but like all car guys he collects cars including a number of these C124s. Needless to say I now believe he was correct about these desirability of great driving drop top 4 seaters. Like all Mercedes Benz cars from this era they do have some maintenance concerns, such as the wiring harness and the top cylinders which are very costly repairs if done at the dealership, but are not too difficult a task for a skilled DIYer know knows how to turn a wrench and has patience. Both can be done rather inexpensively by a novice mechanic. This particular car appears to be a nice one and the condition of the burlwood inlays and gauge needles are telltale signs that she lived much of here life indoors away from UV exposure. It was such a different drive that I converted the federal model to Sportline too.\nIt\u2019s a very doable upgrade.\nThey do indeed have the same degradable wiring harness issues as all other Mercedes of this time frame. There are three in total but relatively easy to replace. If you are going to have a classic car issue, that one is pretty painless. Both of my cars are on original top seals and I change the fluid every few years which may be why they hold up. Top hydraulics will rebuild them with modern upgraded seals if need be at a reasonable cost.\nOtherwise these are terrific cars. Reliable ,quiet and easy to live with day to day. They ride extremely well and parts are fairly inexpensive and available. Things like brakes and such are actually cheap . Probably the best modern driving classic four seat convertible available . It mirrors my original euro Sportline. The shocks, springs, roll bars, steering gear and steering wheel. It made an enormous difference. The least important was the steering box. The actual steering wheel made a big change to the car. All the parts are available from Mercedes except the Sportline 390mm steering wheel which can be found on EBay. The shocks and springs along with the front bar are pretty straightforward. You may need to buy a couple of the Mercedes spring rubber spacers which come in varied thicknesses as the car is lowered a bit. The spacer change will allow perfect alignment. The rear bar is a bit more difficult to install. I did not change the rear subframe bushes which are stiffer on the Sportline. That\u2019s a big job.\nAll parts can be found on the Mercedes epc site. They are listed next to the normal part such as a shock and identified as \u201cSportline \u201c.\nNone of the parts are that expensive .
